Actual unemployment rate has reduced by 0.3 percentage points over the year
Central Statistical Bureau (CSB) estimate shows that actual unemployment rate in Latvia was 6.8 % in December 2024. Over the month, it has increased by 0.2 percentage points and over the year reduced by 0.3 percentage points.
Unemployment rate for women did not change, staying at 5.4 %, and for men increased by 0.2 percentage points, up to 8.1 %.
In December, there were 64.1 thousand unemployed persons in Latvia, which is 1.4 thousand more than a month ago and 2.5 thousand fewer than a year ago. Over the month, the number of unemployed men has grown by 1.2 thousand up to 38.3 thousand and of unemployed women by 0.1 thousand up to 25.7 thousand.
The unemployment rate registered with the State Employment Agency (SEA) was 5.3 %. It has increased by 0.2 percentage points over the month and reduced by 0.4 percentage points over the year.
SEA calculates registered unemployment rate using the data on the registered unemployed persons available to the agency and the data provided by the CSB on active population (employed and unemployed persons) of working age. Actual unemployment rate is estimated indirectly, based on the quarterly Labour Force Survey results compiled by the CSB and the SEA monthly data on registered unemployed persons.
