Data description
Forest regeneration and tending costs are used to evaluate costs of forest preparation for planting, artificial regeneration of forest, soil preparation, seedlings, and planting as well as to find out expenditure on forest agro-technical tending, thinning of young stand composition and tending costs.

Data on forest regeneration and tending are acquired with the help CSB annual statistical report form 1-forests "Report on forestry costs".
Data collection
The data are collected from economically active enterprises and forest owners.
JSC "Latvian State Forests", "Riga Forests" Ltd are always surveyed.
Before 2007 the survey covered economically active statistical units, the economic activity of which in accordance with NACE Rev. 1.1. belonged to Forestry, logging and related service activities (Section 02) and forest owners with the area of over 50 ha were surveyed by a sample survey.
Starting with 2008 until 2018 forest owners with the area of over 50 ha and economically active enterprises whose main activity was forestry and logging (NACE Rev. 2 Section 02) were surveyed by a sample survey:
- except Gathering of wild growing non-wood products (NACE 02.30 class).
- forestry and other forestry activities (NACE 02.10 class) and logging (NACE 02.20 class) with turnover above EUR 850 thousand.
- ancillary forestry activities (NACE 02.40 class) with turnover above EUR 300 thousand.
Starting with 2019 sample survey is used to survey the largest economically active enterprises, whose main kind of economic activity is:
- forestry and other forestry activities (NACE 02.10 class) with turnover of 90 % of total turnover of this sector.
- logging (NACE 02.20 class) and ancillary forestry activities (NACE 02.40 class) with turnover of 70 % of the respective sector turnover.
Starting with 2020 sample survey is used to survey the largest economically active enterprises during the running year, whose main kind of economic activity is:
- forestry and other forestry activities (NACE 02.10 class).
- logging (NACE 02.20 class) and ancillary forestry activities (NACE 02.40 class).
As of 2022 the businesses are surveyed based on the Cabinet Regulations No 103 of 24 December 2021 regarding mass appraisal.
The sample survey covers the largest economically active businesses (Statistical Business Register (SBS) units (merchants, fishermen farms)) the main economic activity whereof is classified under the NACE code 02.10, 02.20, or 02.40 and which were economically active during the running year.
