Press release

In July, manufacturing production output increased by 7.9 %

Data compiled by the Central Statistical Bureau (CSB) show that in July 2021, compared to July 2020, the volume of manufacturing production output1 according to calendar adjusted data at constant prices increased by 7.9 %. Production output increase was registered in electricity and gas supply – by 13.2 %, and in mining and quarrying - by 11.8 %. Total industrial production output increased by 8.4 %.

In July of this year, out of 22 manufacturing industries, 17 sectors showed increase in manufacturing production output, including high and medium-high technology sectors, such as: manufacture of basic pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical preparations, manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (manufacture of motor vehicle parts and accessories) - by 34 %, manufacture of chemicals and chemical products - by 31.7%. In July, production growth continued in manufacture of machinery and equipment n.e.c. - by 19.9 %, in manufacture of beverages - by 18.4 %, as well as in two of the three largest manufacturing industries - manufacture of wood and of products of wood and cork - by 3 %, and manufacture of fabricated metal products, except machinery and equipment - by 20.7 %.

In turn, the decline in output was registered in the manufacture of other transport equipment, manufacture of basic metals, repair and installation of machinery and equipment - by 6 %, as well as in the second largest manufacturing sector - food production - by 1.4 %.

In July 2021, compared to June 2021, manufacturing production output according to seasonally adjusted data at constant prices remained at the level of the previous month. Production output increase was also in mining and quarrying - by 3 %, but in electricity and gas supply there was a drop of 1.3 %. Total industrial production output increased by 0.8 %.

Methodological explanations

1 Industrial production is calculated by summing the self-produced products sold and industrial services provided in a given month with the changes in stocks of finished products and work in progress. The industrial production volume index (IPI) describes changes in the volume of industrial production during the reference period in comparison to the base period. IPI is estimated by recalculating the production output indicator at constant prices with the help of producer price indices.

2 Industrial turnover is the self-produced products sold and industrial services provided in a given month. The industrial turnover index measures the monthly development of market demand for industrial goods and services. It is calculated at current prices without excluding price influence Unlike industrial goods that also include unfinished goods and goods in stock, turnover only includes the goods sold and industrial services provided.
