Value of exported goods rose by 14.9 % in July
Central Statistical Bureau (CSB) provisional data show that in July 2026 Latvia had foreign trade turnover of EUR 4.01 billion, and at current prices it was 10.5 % higher than a year ago. Value of exported goods increased by 14.9 % and of imported goods by 7.3 %. The exported goods were valued at EUR 1.78 billion and imported goods at EUR 2.23 billion.
Compared with July 2025, foreign trade balance has improved as exports in total foreign trade amount increased from 42.7 % to 44.3 %.
During the seven months of this year foreign trade turnover of Latvia at current prices reached EUR 26.86 billion – EUR 1 904.9 million or 7.6 % more than in the corresponding period of 2025. The exported goods were valued at EUR 12.22 billion (up by EUR 815.1 million or 7.1 %) and imported goods at EUR 14.64 billion (up by EUR 1 089.7 million or 8 %).

Data on April 2026 have been revised.
Calendar and seasonally adjusted data show that, compared to July 2025, in July 2026 the value of exports at current prices went up by 15.4 %, but the imports value – by 8.1 %, while over the month value of exports increased by 2.4 %, but of imports reduced by 1.4 %.
Main changes in exports in July 2026, compared to July 2025:
- exports of mineral products up by EUR 102.9 million or 2.1 time;
- exports of machinery and mechanical appliances; electrical equipment up by EUR 65.9 million or 25.5 %;
- exports of prepared foodstuffs up by EUR 22.8 million or 13.2 %;
- exports of vehicles and associated transport equipment up by EUR 13.4 million or 13.3 %;
- exports of products of the chemical and allied industries up by EUR 12.6 million or 8.8 %.
Main changes in imports in July 2026, compared to July 2025:
- imports of mineral products up by EUR 106.4 million or 52.1 %;
- imports of vehicles and associated transport equipment up by EUR 37.1 million or 19.6 %;
- imports of products of the chemical and allied industries up by EUR 13.7 million or 5.6 %;
- imports of wood and articles of wood, wood charcoal up by EUR 9.8 million or 21.3 %;
- imports of machinery and mechanical appliances; electrical equipment down by EUR 24.5 million or 5.2 %.
In July, Lithuania (19.2 % of total exports), Estonia (10.7 %), Germany (6.9 %) and the Russian Federation (6.1 %) were the main export partners of Latvia while the main import partners were Lithuania (21.7 % of total Latvian imports), Germany (12.6 %), Poland (10.4 %) and Estonia (8.9 %).
Year-on-year exports to the United States reduced by 4.4 %, and was valued at EUR 34.9 million. The drop was mainly affected by the reduction in exports of optical instruments and apparatus by 51.5 % or EUR 3 million. Imports from the United States increased 2.4 times and was valued at EUR 47.2 million. The upturn was mainly due to increased imports of machinery and mechanical appliances; electrical equipment, which rose by EUR 16.9 million.
The rise in export of mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation in July 2026, as compared to July 2025, was mostly facilitated by an increase in exports of motor gasoline by EUR 44.5 million, but decrease in export of wood and articles of wood, wood charcoal by downturn in exports of wood pellets by EUR 16 million or 52.1 %.

The rise in imports of mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation in July 2026, as compared to July 2025, was mostly facilitated by an increase in import of light oils and preparations, and diesel oils by EUR 26.3 million and EUR 25.8 million, respectively. In turn, fall in imports of machinery and mechanical appliances was mostly affected by drop in import of parts of engines and motors by EUR 22.4 million.

In July 2026 Latvia had surplus trade balance (meaning that value of exports was greater than the value of imports) with 114 countries and foreign trade deficit in the trade with 48 partners.
In July 2026, compared to July 2025, share of the European Union countries in total exports value increased by 0.4 percentage points, but in total imports value decreased by 0.7 percentage points. The share of CIS countries reduced by 0.8 percentage points in exports and by 0.4 percentage points in imports.

In July 2026, compared to July 2025, exports to Russia rose by 8.8 % and comprised EUR 108.1 million. The rise was mainly driven by the upturn in exports of prepared foodstuffs by 36.8 % or EUR 14.7 million. Compared to a month ago, exports to Russia increased by 17.9 %, which was mainly affected by the rise of EUR 16.5 million in exports of prepared foodstuffs. In July 2026, compared to July 2025, imports from Russia decreased by 26.8 % and comprised EUR 4.6 million. The main cause of imports decline was imports of pulp of wood, paper and paperboard and articles thereof, which fell by 96.5 % or EUR 0.7 million. In July 2026, compared to June 2026, imports from Russia increased by 7.3 %, which was mainly affected by the rise of EUR 0.9 million in imports of products of the chemical and allied industries.
In July 2026, compared to July 2025, exports to Ukraine rose by 13.5 % and comprised EUR 36.5 million. The rise was mainly affected by the increase in exports of machinery and mechanical appliances; electrical equipment by EUR 11 million. Imports from Ukraine fell by 13.3 % and was valued at EUR 16.7 million. The downturn in imports was mainly affected by the reduction of 66.9 % or EUR 2.4 million in imports of products of the chemical and allied industries.
In July 2026, compared to July 2025, exports to Belarus decreased by 0.1 % and comprised EUR 13.1 million. The decline was primarily because of the reduction in exports of prepared foodstuffs (down by 23.9 % or EUR 1.2 million). Compared to a month ago, exports to Belarus increased by 4.1 %, it was mainly affected by the rise of EUR 2.4 million in exports of optical instruments and apparatus. Imports from Belarus reduced by 58.9 % and was valued at EUR 1.6 million. Fall in imports from Belarus was mostly affected by the drop in imports of animal or vegetable fats and oils by EUR 1.7 million.
