Value of exported goods rose by 18.6 % in June
Central Statistical Bureau (CSB) provisional data show that in June 2026 Latvia had foreign trade turnover of EUR 3.87 billion, and at current prices it was 16 % higher than a year ago. Value of exported goods increased by 18.6 % and of imported goods by 14.1 %. The exported goods were valued at EUR 1.7 billion and imported goods at EUR 2.17 billion.
Compared with June 2025, foreign trade balance has improved as exports in total foreign trade amount increased from 42.9 % to 43.8 %.
During the first half of this year foreign trade turnover of Latvia at current prices reached EUR 22.81 billion – EUR 1 487.4 million or 7 % more than in the corresponding period of 2025. The exported goods were valued at EUR 10.43 billion (up by EUR 571.4 million or 5.8 %) and imported goods at EUR 12.39 billion (up by EUR 916 million or 8 %).
Please note that the statistics for foreign trade in goods is presented at actual prices and calculated based on the goods value in euro, not the physical amount or quantity.
Data on April, July, August, September, October, December 2025 and March 2026 have been revised.
Calendar and seasonally adjusted data show that, compared to June 2025, in June 2026 the exports value at current prices went up by 14.5 %, but the imports value – by 9.3 %, while over the month (in June 2026 compared to May 2026) value of exports decreased by 1.2 % and of imports by 1.1 %.
Main changes in exports in June 2026, compared to June 2025:
- exports of machinery and mechanical appliances; electrical equipment up by EUR 52.7 million or 23 %;
- exports of mineral products up by EUR 34.6 million or 36.9 %;
- exports of vehicles and associated transport equipment up by EUR 27.5 million or 28 %;
- exports of prepared foodstuffs up by EUR 27.2 million or 18.3 %;
- exports of base metals and articles of base metals up by EUR 26.0 million or 31.2 %.
Main changes in imports in June 2026, compared to June 2025:
- imports of mineral products up by EUR 64.2 million or 32 %;
- imports of vehicles and associated transport equipment up by EUR 41.8 million or 20.5 %;
- imports of products of the chemical and allied industries up by EUR 40.6 million or 18.7 %;
- imports of base metals and articles of base metals up by EUR 24.8 million or 20.6 %;
- imports of machinery and mechanical appliances; electrical equipment up by EUR 23.9 million or 6 %.
Lithuania remained the largest destination for goods exported from Latvia in June – with a share of 19.5 % –, Estonia came second with 11.4 %. Germany followed at some distance with 7.1 %, and the United Kingdom with 5.7 %. Lithuania (21.1 % of total Latvian imports), Germany (13.9 %), Poland (10.2 %) and Estonia (9.5 %) were the main import partners.
Year-on-year exports to the United States reduced by 14.6 % and was valued at EUR 30 million. The downturn was driven primarily by reduced exports of wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal, which dropped by 65.2 % or EUR 4.2 million. Imports from the United States increased 2.3 times and was valued at EUR 30.7 million. Rise in imports was mostly affected by the increase of EUR 7.8 million in imports of mineral products.
The rise in exports of mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation in June 2026, as compared to June 2025, was mostly facilitated by an increase in exports of natural gas and electricity by EUR 18.4 million and EUR 17.9 million, respectively, but increase in exports of pharmaceutical products by upturn in exports of packed medicaments for retail sale by EUR 10.8 million or 22 %.

The rise in imports of iron and steel in June 2026, compared with June 2025, was mostly facilitated by an increase in imports of rolled iron and non-alloy steel bars by EUR 4.3 million. In turn, fall in imports of machinery and mechanical appliances was mostly affected by drop in imports of derricks, cranes and other lifting equipment by EUR 6.8 million.

In June 2026 Latvia had surplus trade balance (meaning that value of exports was greater than the value of imports) with 108 countries and foreign trade deficit in the trade with 58 partners.
In June 2026, compared to June 2025, share of the European Union countries in total exports value increased by 0.2 percentage points, but in total imports value decreased by 0.5 percentage points. Share of CIS countries in exports rose by 0.5 percentage points, but in imports – fell by 0.2 percentage points.

Year-on-year comparison indicates a 29 % increase in the exports to Russia, which was valued at EUR 91.7 million. The rise was affected by the rise of EUR 7.5 million and EUR 6.8 million in exports of products of the chemical and allied industries and prepared foodstuffs, respectively. In June 2026, compared to May 2026, exports to Russia increased by 29.8 %, it was mainly affected by the rise of EUR 10.4 million in export of products of the chemical and allied industries. In June 2026, compared to June 2025, imports from Russia decreased by 9.2 % and comprised EUR 4.3 million. The main cause of imports decline was import of products of the chemical and allied industries, which fell by 44.1 % or EUR 0.6 million.
In June 2026, compared to June 2025, exports to Ukraine rose by 4.1 % and comprised EUR 24.5 million. The rise was mainly affected by the increase in exports of machinery and mechanical appliances; electrical equipment by EUR 5.9 million. Imports from Ukraine fell by 22.4 % and was valued at EUR 16.8 million. The main cause of imports decline was import of products of the chemical and allied industries, which fell by EUR 4.2 million or 79 %.
In June 2026, compared to June 2025, exports to Belarus increased by 39.3 % and comprised EUR 12.6 million. The upturn was mostly affected by the rise of EUR 2.7 million in exports of products of the chemical and allied industries. Imports from Belarus reduced by 73.5 % and was valued at EUR 2.2 million. Fall in imports from Belarus was mostly affected by the drop in import of animal or vegetable fats and oils by EUR 5.1 million.

Methodological information:
Starting with the data on 2024, Latvian exports include businesses exporting goods from Latvia to third countries through other EU countries where they have filled in export customs declarations for the export of goods to third countries. In June 2026, the value of these transactions made up EUR 5.2 million, or 0.3 % of the total exports.
