In February Latvia exported goods in the amount of EUR 1.55 billion
Provisional data of the Central Statistical Bureau (CSB) show that in February 2026 Latvia had foreign trade turnover of EUR 3.44 billion (at current prices 1.5 % more than a year ago), of which value of exported goods reduced by 5.0 % and of imported goods went up by 7.5 %. In February Latvia exported goods in the amount of EUR 1.55 billion, but imported – in the amount of EUR 1.88 billion.
As exports in the total foreign trade decreased from 48.2 % in February 2025 to 45.1 % in February 2026, foreign trade balance worsened.
Whereas, compared to January this year, the exports value went down by 1.5 % ,but the imports value – went up by 7.9 %.
During the two months of this year foreign trade turnover of Latvia at current prices reached EUR 6.76 billion – EUR 219.1 million or 3.1 % less than in the corresponding period of 2025. The total value of exports was EUR 3.13 billion (down by EUR 192.2 million or 5.8 %) and of imports EUR 3.63 billion (down by EUR 26.9 million or 0.7 %).

Data on March, April, May and November 2025 have been revised.
Calendar and seasonally adjusted data show that over the year (in February 2026 compared to February 2025) value of exported goods reduced by 5.4 % and that of imported goods rose by 7.4 %, whereas, compared to the previous month, the value of exported goods went down by 0.03 % ,but the value of imported goods – went up by 4.8 %.
Main changes in exports in February 2026, compared to February 2025:
- exports of prepared foodstuffs up by EUR 11.7 million or 7.9 %;
- exports of machinery and mechanical appliances; electrical equipment up by EUR 11.3 million or 4.7 %;
- exports of vegetable products down by EUR 38.3 million or 34.1 %;
- exports of wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal down by EUR 20.9 million or 8.3 %;
- exports of mineral products down by EUR 14.5 million or 8 %.
Main changes in imports in February 2026, compared to February 2025:
- imports of mineral products up by EUR 84.8 million or 40.4 %;
- imports of machinery and mechanical appliances; electrical equipment up by EUR 36.3 million or 10.7 %;
- imports of prepared foodstuffs up by EUR 8.8 million or 5.4 %;
- imports of plastics, rubber and articles thereof down by EUR 9.8 million or 10.9 %;
- imports of vehicles and associated transport equipment down by EUR 8.2 million or 5 %.
The main exports partners in February were Lithuania (19.4 % of total exports), Estonia (12.5 %), Germany (7.2 %) and Sweden (5.3 %). Lithuania (18.6 % of total Latvian imports), Germany (11.8 %), Poland (10.2 %) and Estonia (9.1 %) were the main import partners.
Year-on-year exports to the United States reduced by 39.7 %, and was valued at EUR 23.5 million. The decrease was mainly affected by the drop in export of wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal of EUR 5.7 million or 65.7 %. Imports from the United States increased 2.1 times and was valued at EUR 38.5 million. Rise in imports was mostly affected by the increase of EUR 11.7 million in imports of mineral products.
The rise in exports of vehicles and associated transport equipment in February 2026, as compared to February 2025, was mostly facilitated by an increase in exports of passenger cars and trucks by EUR 2.7 million and EUR 2.5 million, respectively. In turn, export of plastics and articles thereof was mostly affected by drop in exports of polymer resins and plastics in primary forms (polyethers, epoxides, polycarbonates, polyesters, etc.) by EUR 2.4 million or 43.4 %.

The rise in imports of mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation in February 2026, compared to February 2025, was mostly facilitated by an increase in imports of diesel oil and natural gas by EUR 38.4 million and EUR 32.2 million, respectively. However, downturn in the imports of wood and articles of wood, wood charcoal was mostly caused by reduced import of round timber, which fell by EUR 4.4 million or 33.8 %.

In February 2026 foreign trade balance of Latvia was positive with 122 partner countries, as exports value of goods exceeded imports value of goods, and foreign trade deficit in the trade with 47 partners.
In February 2026, compared to February 2025, share of the European Union countries in total exports value increased by 5 percentage points, but in total imports value fell by 2.4 percentage points. Share of CIS countries in exports rose by 0.1 percentage point, but in imports – fell by 1.3 percentage points.

In February 2026, compared to February 2025, exports to Russia went up by 4.3 % and comprised EUR 81.2 million. The rise was mainly driven by the upturn in export of prepared foodstuffs by 28.0 % or EUR 7.7 million. However, a decrease in exports was observed in the following commodity groups: textiles and textile articles (down by EUR 4.3 million), mineral products (down by EUR 1.7 million) and plastics, rubber and articles thereof (down by EUR 1.1 million). As compared to the previous month, exports to Russia increased by 28.5 %, it was mainly affected by the upturn of EUR 6.4 million in export of textiles and textile articles. In February 2026, compared to February 2025, imports from Russia decreased by 74.7 % and comprised EUR 3.2 million. Decrease in imports was mainly affected by the drop in imports of base metals and articles of base metals of EUR 6 million or 95.4 %.
In February 2026, compared to February 2025, exports to Ukraine decreased by 46.3 % and comprised EUR 19.4 million. The main cause of this decline was exports of machinery and mechanical appliances; electrical equipment, which reduced by EUR 3.5 million or 43.9 %. Imports from Ukraine fell by 34 % and was valued at EUR 14.1 million. The main cause of imports decline was import of the chemical and allied industries, which fell by EUR 6 million or 83.0 %.
In February 2026, compared to February 2025, exports to Belarus decreased by 18.3 % and was EUR 8.5 million. The downturn was mainly affected by the reduction of EUR 1.3 million or 37.1 % in exports of products of the chemical and allied industries. Compared to a month before, exports to Belarus went up by 34.6 %. The rise was mainly affected by the increase in exports of optical instruments and apparatus by EUR 1.4 million. Imports from Belarus reduced by 82.4 % and was valued at EUR 1.6 million. Fall in imports from Belarus was mostly affected by the drop in import of products of animal or vegetable fats and oils by EUR 5.7 million.

Starting with the data on 2024, Latvian exports include businesses exporting goods from Latvia to third countries through other EU countries where they have filled in export customs declarations for the export of goods to third countries. In February 2026 the value of these transactions comprised EUR 6.1 million or 0.4 % of total exports.
