Value of exported goods rose by 3.7 % in 2025
Provisional data of the Central Statistical Bureau show that in 2025 Latvia exported EUR 19.54 billion worth of goods, EUR 698.1 million or 3.7 % more than in 2024, and imported EUR 23.19 billion, EUR 1.5 billion or 6.9 % more. The foreign trade turnover of Latvia at current prices reached EUR 42.73 billion – EUR 2.2 billion or 5.4 % more than in 2024.
Please note that the statistics for foreign trade in goods is presented at actual prices and calculated based on the goods value in euro, not the physical amount or quantity.
According to calendar and seasonally adjusted data at current prices, in 2025, compared with 2024, value of exports increased by 4.5 %, of imports by 7 %.
Exports rise was observed in the following commodity groups: mineral products – EUR 353.5 million or 24.7 %, live animals and animal products – EUR 212.3 million or 22.4 %, as well as machinery, mechanical appliances and electrical equipment – EUR 135.6 million or 4.7 %. In turn, a decrease was observed in the following commodity groups: vegetable products – EUR 66.4 million or 5.1 %, wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal – EUR 38.1 million or 1.3 %.
Last year main commodities in exports of Latvia were wood, articles of wood and wood charcoal (15.3 % of total exports), electrical machinery and equipment (10.2 %), mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation (8.5 %). Wood, articles of wood and wood charcoal were mostly exported to the United Kingdom (24.8 %), Sweden (9.3 %), and Lithuania (7 %), while electrical machinery and equipment – to Lithuania (25.2 %), Estonia (11.1 %) and France (8 %), but mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation – to Lithuania (17.4 %), Nigeria (15.9 %), and Estonia (9.6 %).
In 2025 goods were exported from Latvia to 201 countries worldwide. Five largest exports partners were Lithuania, Estonia, Germany, the United Kingdom, and Sweden. Their share comprised 47.4 % of total exports value. To Lithuania, Estonia, and Germany agricultural and food products were exported the most, but to the United Kingdom, and Sweden – wood and articles of wood.
In 2025 the dispatch of goods to the European Union (EU) countries in total exports value of Latvia reached EUR 13 661.9 million or 69.9 %, of which to euro area countries EUR 10 432.8 million or 53.4 %. Exports to Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) comprised EUR 1 399.5 million or 7.2 %, but to other countries – EUR 4 476.3 million or 22.9 %.
In 2025, exports of Latvian origin goods to EU* countries comprised 47.7 % of the total value of goods exported to these countries. Latvian origin goods were mostly exported to Lithuania (EUR 1,037 million), Germany (EUR 843.6 million), and Sweden (EUR 810.5 million).

In 2025, compared with 2024, imports rise was observed in the following commodity groups: machinery, mechanical appliances and electrical equipment – EUR 652.7 million or 16 %, products of the chemical and allied industries – EUR 174.3 million or 7.1 %, as well as vehicles and associated transport equipment – EUR 171.5 million or 8 %. In turn, a decrease was observed in the following commodity groups: prepared foodstuffs – EUR 73.4 million or 3.3 %, animal or vegetable fats and oils – EUR 50.2 million or 23.1 %.
Last year main commodities in imports of Latvia were electrical machinery and equipment (11.7 % of total imports); mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation (10.7 %); vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling stock, and parts and accessories thereof (9.4 %). Electrical machinery and equipment were mostly imported from Lithuania (16.4 %), China (12.6 %), Germany (8.4 %); mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation – from Lithuania (47 %), Finland (21.5 %), Estonia (9 %); vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling stock, and parts and accessories thereof – from Germany (37 %), Estonia (20 %), Poland (9.8 %).
In 2025 goods were imported to Latvia from 167 countries worldwide. Five largest imports partners were Lithuania, Germany, Poland, Estonia, and Finland. Their share comprised 58.4 % of total imports value. The main imports from Lithuania, and Finland were mineral products, from Germany – transport equipment and associated transport equipment, but from Poland, and Estonia – agricultural and food products.
In 2025 arrival of goods from EU countries in total imports of Latvia comprised EUR 19 463.9 million or 83.9 %, of which from euro area countries EUR 14 903.4 million or 64.3 %. Imports from CIS countries comprised EUR 354.4 million or 1.5 %, but to other countries – EUR 3 375.5 million or 14.6 %.

In 2025, compared with 2024, exports to Russia decreased by 7.3 % and comprised EUR 962.5 million. The drop was mostly affected by downturn in exports of prepared foodstuffs by EUR 63.4 million or 13.1 %. In 2025, compared with 2024, imports from Russia decreased by 68.2 % and comprised EUR 125.6 million. Reduced supply of goods from Russia was caused by reduced import of mineral products, which went down by EUR 176.3 million or 98.5 %.
Exports to Ukraine fell by 13 % and was valued at EUR 316.7 million. The downturn was mainly driven by the reduction of EUR 6.6 million and EUR 5.4 million in exports of mineral products and products of the chemical and allied industries, respectively. Imports from Ukraine fell by 15.9 % and was valued at EUR 242.2 million. The main cause of imports decline was import of the chemical and allied industries, which fell by EUR 34.1 million or 39.4 %.
Exports to Belarus decreased by 7.1 % and was valued at EUR 132.5 million. The downturn was mainly driven by the reduction of EUR 12.3 million and EUR 12.2 million in exports of textiles and textile articles and plastics; rubber and articles thereof, respectively. Imports from Belarus reduced by 56.1 % and was valued at EUR 65.4 million. The main cause for this reduction was import of products of animal or vegetable fats and oils, which went down by EUR 24.6 million or 44.7 %.
Methodological information:
* When exporting goods to third countries, it is not mandatory to indicate the country of origin in the export declaration, therefore data on the exports of goods of Latvian origin is available only for trade with the EU countries.
Starting with the data on 2024, exports of Latvia includes data on enterprises that exported goods from Latvia to third countries through other EU member states by filling in export customs declarations for the export of goods to third countries. In 2025 the value of these transactions comprised EUR 76.5 million or 0.4 % of total exports.
