Value of exported goods rose by 2.2 % in October
Provisional data of the Central Statistical Bureau (CSB) show that in October 2025 the foreign trade turnover of Latvia amounted to EUR 3.9 billion, which at current prices was 2.5 % larger than a year ago, of which the exports value of goods was 2.2 % higher, but imports value of goods – 2.9 % higher. In October Latvia exported goods in the amount of EUR 1.81 billion, but imported – in the amount of EUR 2.1 billion.
Compared to October 2024, foreign trade balance has worsened as exports in total foreign trade amount decreased from 46.5 % to 46.3 %. Please note that the statistics for foreign trade in goods is presented at actual prices and calculated based on the goods value in euro, not the physical amount or quantity.
In the first ten months of this year, Latvian foreign trade turnover at current prices reached EUR 35.82 billion – EUR 1 998.2 million or 5.9 % more than in the corresponding period of 2024. The exported goods were valued at EUR 16.4 billion (up by EUR 682.1 million or 4.3 %) and imported goods at EUR 19.41 billion (up by EUR 1 316.1 million or 7.3 %).
Data on July 2025 have been revised.
Calendar and seasonally adjusted data show that, compared to October 2024, in October 2025 the exports value at current prices went up by 3.2 %, but the imports value by 3.9 %, Month-on-month data indicate an increase of 0.7 % in the value of exports and a decrease of 1.5 % in the value of imports.
Main changes in exports in October 2025, compared to October 2024:
- exports of mineral products up by EUR 24.5 million or 17.4 %;
- exports of vehicles and associated transport equipment up by EUR 23.7 million or 27.2 %;
- exports of machinery and mechanical appliances; electrical equipment up by EUR 19.3 million or 7.4 %;
- exports of prepared foodstuffs up by EUR 18.9 million or 10.2 %;
- exports of vegetable products down by EUR 41.3 million or 25.5 %.
Main changes in imports in October 2025, compared to October 2024:
- imports of machinery and mechanical appliances; electrical equipment up by EUR 74.1 million or 19.8 %;
- imports of vehicles and associated transport equipment up by EUR 13.7 million or 6.9 %;
- imports of prepared foodstuffs up by EUR 13.6 million or 7.1 %;
- imports of vegetable products up by EUR 12.7 million or 14.8 %;
- imports of mineral products down by EUR 31.2 million or 11.1 %.
In October main exports partners were Lithuania (18.4 % of total exports), Estonia (11 %), Germany (6.6 %) and United Kingdom (5.9 %), while Lithuania (20.5 % of total Latvian imports), Germany (12.6 %), Poland (11.2 %) and Estonia (10.4 %) were the main import partners.
Year-on-year exports to the United States reduced by 5 %, and was valued at EUR 43.9 million. The decrease was mainly affected by the drop in export of wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal of EUR 3.5 million or 24.9 %. Imports from the United States increased 6.5 times and was valued at EUR 63.7 million. The upturn was mainly due to increased imports of machinery and mechanical appliances; electrical equipment, which rose by EUR 35.6 million.
Year-on-year data show that the rise in the exports of vehicles and associated transport equipment boosted by growing export of passenger cars, which went up by EUR 12.6 million or 32.9 %. In turn, fall in exports of cereals was mostly affected by drop in export of wheat and meslin by EUR 23 million or 28.5 %.

The rise in imports of electrical machinery and equipment in October 2025, as compared to October 2024, was mostly affected by an increase in import of automatic circuit breakers by EUR 16.1 million. However, downturn in the imports of wood and articles of wood, wood charcoal was mostly caused by reduced import of wood pellets, which fell by EUR 5.6 million or 78.3 %.

In October 2025 foreign trade balance of Latvia was positive with 121 partner countries, as exports value of goods exceeded imports value of goods. and foreign trade deficit in the trade with 50 partners.
The year-on-year share of the European Union countries in total exports value increased by 3 percentage points, but in total imports value fell by 0.6 percentage points. The share of CIS countries reduced by 0.3 percentage points in exports and by 1.2 percentage points in imports.

Year-on-year comparison indicates a 1.5 % increase in the exports to Russia, which was valued at EUR 99 million. The rise was mostly affected by upturn in exports of prepared foodstuffs by EUR 7.6 million. However, a decrease in exports was observed in the following commodity groups: textile materials and textiles (down by EUR 5.6 million) and leather, furskins and articles thereof (down by EUR 0.7 million). In October 2025, compared to September 2025, exports to Russia increased by 14.3 %, it was affected by the rise of EUR 19.6 million in export of prepared foodstuffs.
In October 2025, compared to October 2024, imports from Russia decreased by 85.4 % and comprised EUR 3.8 million. Reduced supply of goods from Russia was caused by reduced import of mineral products, which went down by EUR 19.9 million.
Exports to Ukraine fell by 12.8 % and was valued at EUR 29.5 million. The drop was primarily because of the downturn in export of vehicles and associated transport equipment (down by EUR 1 million or 68.5 %). Imports from Ukraine fell by 25.6 % and was valued at EUR 20.2 million. The main cause of this decline was import of the chemical and allied industries, which fell by EUR 5.2 million or 59.9 %.
Exports to Belarus higher by 27.4 % and comprised EUR 14.1 million. The rise was mainly affected by the increase in export of optical instruments and apparatus (inc. medical), clocks and watches, musical instruments by EUR 2.3 million. Imports from Belarus reduced by 34.8 % and was valued at EUR 4.3 million. Decrease in imports from Belarus was mostly affected by the drop in import of products of animal or vegetable fats and oils by EUR 3 million. In October 2025, compared to September 2025, imports from Belarus increased by 30.3 %, it was affected by the rise of EUR 0.9 million in import of products of the chemical and allied industries.

Methodological information:
Starting with the data on 2024, Latvian exports include businesses exporting goods from Latvia to third countries through other EU countries where they have filled in export customs declarations for the export of goods to third countries. In October 2025 the value of these transactions comprised EUR 5.7 million or 0.3 % of total exports.
