Foreign trade in goods

Foreign trade

Statistics on trade flows to and from Latvia in breakdown by commodity type and partner.

Monthly data are provisional and therefore may be revised. Final foreign trade statistics (January–December) is published in August of the next year.

Commodities are classified based on the European Union Combined Nomenclature which is hierarchically structured into five levels. The highest level is broken down into 21 sections (marked with Roman numerals), while each of them is broken down into chapters (marked with 2-digit code). The most detailed level of the classification (Level 5) is shown with an 8-digit code.

What do exports include?

The total exports data are presented in value terms estimated at current prices, by including transportation and insurance costs up to the border of Latvia and indicating the last known country of destination.
In foreign trade statistics, the total exports include the following flows of goods:

• goods exported for sale abroad,
• goods exported for processing abroad with notification of intended return,
• goods exported after being temporarily imported for processing,
• re-exports, i.e., the goods imported and then resent to another country for sale.

What do imports include?

The total imports data are presented in value terms estimated at current prices, by including transportation and insurance costs up to the border of Latvia. The imports from the European Union countries are shown based on the country of consignment while the imports from the third (non-EU) countries are shown based on the last known country of origin or country of consignment if the country of origin is not known.
In foreign trade statistics, the total imports include the following flows of goods:

• goods imported for domestic consumption or for resale to other countries,
• goods imported for processing in Latvia with notification of intended return,
• goods imported after being temporarily exported for processing.
