Mean age at first marriage

Since 1990, the mean age at marriage has increased by ten years for both men and women. Moreover, this figure tends to increase.

The number of marriages concluded at a younger age reduces every year, especially in the age group 19 and under. As a result, the mean age at first marriage is increasing. Over the past 30  years, this figure has risen by more than seven years.

The mean age of women at first marriage is two years lower than that of men.

The number of late marriages has increased recently. This trend has been driven by the 2019 amendments to the law On State Pensions, which state that, in the event of a pension recipient’s death, the surviving spouse is entitled to an allowance equal to 50% of the deceased spouse’s pension for a period of 12 months.
