Activities of court. Civil cases

The Court Administration of Latvia organizes and ensures the administrative work of district (city) courts, regional courts, as well as provides official statistics on the operation of courts.

Civil cases is a form of adjudication and settlement of a dispute (property or non-financial, moral) which is usually initiated and conducted on the initiative of a person the legal rights or interests whereof have been affected. The number of civil cases includes claim statements received and initiated as well as applications received and initiated in cases of special forms of procedure, except for applications for uncontested enforcement of obligations, applications for enforcement of obligations according to warning procedures, and applications for the voluntary sale of immovable property at auction through the court.

Regional courts, acting as appellate courts, examine cases according to the appeal procedure, i.e., upon request review the decision of the court of first instance if it is considered as incorrect.
