Consumption of food products
Household Budget Survey (HBS) results show that the consumption of dairy products, pork, potatoes, rye bread, sugar, cabbages, carrots, butter, margarine, and vegetable fats has declined, while consumption of bakery products, biscuits, processed meat and meat preparations, tropical fruits and berries, cucumbers and tomatoes, as well as non-alcoholic beverages, fruit juices, and mineral water has increased. The decline in the consumption of certain food products is partly linked to households eating out more frequently and changes in their eating habits.
Comparison of urban and rural food consumption trends shows that inhabitants of rural areas consume larger quantalities of potatoes, bread, milk, eggs, pork and sugar.
HBS was not conducted in 2017 and 2018, as well as from 2020 to 2024. The last HBS was conducted in 2019. In 2025, the current Household budget survey data is being collected. The results of the survey will be available in August 2026.
