Prevalence of violence

In 2021 CSB conducted the first Survey on Gender-Based Violence. It is aimed at collecting information on prevalence of various types of violence in Latvia based on common methodology developed by the Eurostat.

Sexual harassment at work

Any form of unwanted verbal, non-verbal or physical conduct of a sexual nature with the purpose or effect of violating the dignity of a person, particularly by creating an intimidating, hostile, degrading, humiliating or offensive work environment. Sexual harassment at work may be committed by colleagues, managers or superiors, customers or patients. At work means both the workplace as a location (e.g., office) and any another place where one is sexually harassed by a person having professional relation to a victim (work event, restaurant, training, etc.).

Interpersonal Violence

Interpersonal violence includes intimate partner violence, violence between household members and violence by others. It can take many forms - physical and sexual violence (the term most often associated with abuse), neglect, personal insults, threats, harassment, stalking and other forms of psychological (emotional) abuse.

Stalking

Frequently repeated behaviour that involves harassing someone, causing fear or concern for that person’s safety. It usually refers to harassment through a series of aggressive, often threatening acts that are collectively illegal, though each individual act might be legal.

Violence in Childhood

Experiencing violence in childhood (before the age of 15) when living with parents or persons with whom person grew up – mother, foster mother, stepmother, or grandmother; father, foster father, stepfather, or grandfather. The types of violence include, e.g., verbal belittling/humiliation, physical or sexual violence against oneself or any other household member.
