In August actual unemployment 6.4 % and registered 5.8 %

Results of the Labour Force Survey conducted by the Central Statistical Bureau of Latvia (CSB) show that in August 2022 actual unemployment rate in Latvia constituted 6.4 % and compared to July it has reduced by 0.1 percentage points.

Unemployment rate among both females and males decreased by 0.1 percentage points, reaching 4.5 % and 8.2 %.

The unemployment rate registered with the State Employment Agency (SEA) accounted for 5.8 %, and since July it has dropped by 0.2 percentage points. Compared to August of the year before, actual unemployment rate has gone down by 0.8 percentage points and registered by 0.7 percentage points.

In August 2022 there were 60.7 thousand unemployed persons in Latvia (21.3 thousand females and 39.4 thousand males), which is 0.9 thousand fewer than in July and 7.0 thousand fewer than in the corresponding period a year ago. Over the month the number of unemployed males reduced by 0.6 thousand and of unemployed females by 0.3 thousand.

The registered unemployment rate in the SEA is calculated using data on registered unemployed persons held by the Agency and data on active population (employed and unemployed persons) of working age provided by the CSB. The actual unemployment rate is estimated based on not adjusted monthly survey results.
