Actual unemployment rate at 7.1 % in December

Central Statistical Bureau (CSB) estimate shows that actual unemployment rate in Latvia was 7.1 % in December 2025. It increased by 0.2 percentage points month-on-month and did not change year-on-year.

Unemployment rate for women rose by 0.1 percentage points up to 5.8 %, and for men it grew by 0.3 percentage points up to 8.4 %.


In December 2025, there were 68.0 thousand unemployed persons in Latvia, which is 1.7 thousand more month-on-month and 2.3 thousand more year-on-year. Month-on-month, the number of unemployed men grew by 1.5 thousand, reaching 40.1 thousand, and the number of unemployed women rose by 0.2 thousand, reaching 27.9 thousand.


The unemployment rate registered with the State Employment Agency (SEA) was 5.0 %. It increased by 0.2 percentage points month-on-month and reduced by 0.3 percentage points year-on-year.


SEA calculates registered unemployment rate using data on the registered unemployed persons available to the agency and data provided by the CSB on active population (employed and unemployed persons) of working age. Actual unemployment rate is estimated indirectly, based on the quarterly Labour Force Survey results compiled by the CSB and on the SEA monthly data on registered unemployed persons.

From now on, unemployment press releases will be published only on a quarterly basis, and monthly unemployment indicators will be available in Eurostat database table une_rt_m.
