Actual unemployment rate reduced by 0.2 percentage points in May
Central Statistical Bureau (CSB) estimate shows that actual unemployment rate in Latvia was 6.8 % in May 2025. It has reduced by 0.2 percentage points over the month and by 0.1 percentage points over the year.
Unemployment rate for women fell by 0.1 percentage points to 6.2 % and for men by 0.2 percentage points to 7.5 %.
In March, there were 64.7 thousand unemployed persons in Latvia, which is 1.6 thousand fewer than a month ago and 0.8 thousand fewer than a year ago. Over the month, the number of unemployed men declined by 1.0 thousand, reaching 35.5 thousand, and the number of unemployed women reduced by 0.6 thousand, reaching 29.1 thousand.
The unemployment rate registered with the State Employment Agency (SEA) was 4.9 %. It has reduced by 0.2 percentage points over the month and by 0.3 percentage points over the year.
SEA calculates registered unemployment rate using the data on the registered unemployed persons available to the agency and the data provided by the CSB on active population (employed and unemployed persons) of working age. Actual unemployment rate is estimated indirectly, based on the quarterly Labour Force Survey results compiled by the CSB and on the SEA monthly data on registered unemployed persons.
