In May actual unemployment rate reduced by 0.3 percentage points
Central Statistical Bureau (CSB) estimate shows that in May 2024 actual unemployment rate in Latvia was 6.6 % and it has reduced by 0.3 percentage points over the month. Over the year actual unemployment rate has increased by 0.2 percentage points.
Unemployment rate both for women and men fell by 0.3 percentage points, to 6.1 % and 7.1 %, respectively.
The unemployment rate registered with the State Employment Agency (SEA) was 5.2 %. It has reduced by 0.2 percentage points over the month and by 0.3 percentage points over the year.
In May 2024 there were 62.9 thousand unemployed persons in Latvia (29.3 thousand women and 33.6 thousand men), which is 2.5 thousand fewer than a month ago and 2.5 thousand more than a year ago. During the month, the number of unemployed men reduced by 1.3 thousand and of unemployed women by 1.2 thousand.
SEA calculates the registered unemployment rate using the data on the registered unemployed persons available to the agency and the data provided by the CSB on active population (employed and unemployed persons) of working age. The actual unemployment rate is estimated indirectly, based on the quarterly Labour Force Survey results compiled by the CSB and SEA monthly data on registered unemployed persons.
