In February actual unemployment 7.2 % and registered 5.8 %

Central Statistical Bureau (CSB) estimate shows that in February 2024 actual unemployment rate in Latvia was 7.2 % and it has risen by 0.1 percentage points over the month. Over the year actual unemployment rate increased by 0.8 percentage points.

Unemployment rate among women did not change and was 6.3 % and among men it went up by 0.2 percentage points to 8.2 %.

The unemployment rate registered with the State Employment Agency (SEA) was 5.8 %. It has risen by 0.1 percentage points over the month and reduced by 0.5 percentage points over the year.

In February 2024 there were 67.7 thousand unemployed persons in Latvia (29.6 thousand women and 38.1 thousand men), which is 0.7 thousand more than a month ago and 8.0 thousand more than a year ago.  During the month, the number of unemployed men grew by 0.6 thousand and of unemployed women did not change.

SEA calculates registered unemployment rate by using own data on registered unemployed persons and CSB data on active population (employed and unemployed persons) of working age. The actual unemployment rate is estimated indirectly, based on the quarterly Labour Force Survey results compiled by the CSB and SEA monthly data on registered unemployed persons.
