Actual unemployment rate did not change in June

Results of the Labour Force Survey conducted by the Central Statistical Bureau (CSB) show that in June 2023 actual unemployment rate in Latvia was 5.6 % and over the month it did not change. Over the year actual unemployment rate fell by 1.0 percentage point.

Unemployment rate among men reduced by 0.1 percentage points down to 6.1 % while among women increased by 0.1 percentage points up to 5.2 %.

The unemployment rate registered with the State Employment Agency (SEA) was 5.5 %. It has not changed over the month and reduced by 0.4 percentage points over the year.

In June 2023 there were 53.2 thousand unemployed persons in Latvia (24.0 thousand women and 29.2 thousand men), which is equal to the number registered a month ago and 9.4 thousand fewer than a year ago. During the month the number of unemployed men fell by 0.4 thousand while of unemployed women grew by 0.4 thousand.

The SEA calculates registered unemployment rate by using own data on the registered unemployed persons and CSB data on the active population (employed and unemployed persons) of working age. The actual unemployment rate is estimated based on not adjusted monthly survey results.
