In May actual unemployment rate went down to 5.6 %

Results of the Labour Force Survey conducted by the Central Statistical Bureau (CSB) show that in May 2023 actual unemployment rate in Latvia was 5.6 % and over the month it has reduced by 0.2 percentage points. Over the year actual unemployment rate fell by 0.9 percentage points.

Unemployment rate among men reduced by 0.2 percentage points down to 6.2 % and among women by 0.1 percentage points to 5.1 %.

The unemployment rate registered with the State Employment Agency (SEA) constituted 5.5 %. Over the month it reduced by 0.2 percentage points and over the year by 0.6 percentage points.

In May 2023 there were 53.2 thousand unemployed persons in Latvia (23.6 thousand women and 29.6 thousand men), which is a drop of 1.7 thousand over the month and 8.7 thousand over the year. During the month the number of unemployed men fell by one thousand and of unemployed women by 0.7 thousand.

The SEA calculates registered unemployment rate by using own data on the registered unemployed persons and CSB data on the active population (employed and unemployed persons) of working age. The actual unemployment rate is estimated based on not adjusted monthly survey results.
