In Q1 2025, there were 21.5 thousand vacant jobs in Latvia

Central Statistical Bureau data show that in Q1 2025 Latvian labour market had 21.5 thousand job vacancies. Of which, 11.9 thousand jobs were vacant in private and 9.6 thousand in public sector. Out of all jobs available in the country (both occupied and vacant), 2.4 % positions were vacant, of which 3.2 % in public and 2.0 % in private sector.

Compared to Q1 2024, the number of vacant jobs reduced by 3.0 thousand (12.2 %). In private sector it dropped by 1.5 thousand (11.4 %) and in public sector by 1.5 thousand (13.1 %).

The number of occupied posts totalled 871.2 thousand. Compared to Q1 2024, the average number of occupied posts reduced by 6.0 thousand (0.7 %). In private sector it declined by 6.6 thousand (1.1 %) while in public grew by 0.6 thousand (0.2 %).

In terms of major occupational groups, the largest share of job vacancies was recorded for technicians and associate professionals (4.2 %), elementary occupations (2.9 %), as well as craft and related trades workers (2.9 %).

Occupations meet the Latvian Classification of Occupations (which is based on the International Standard Classification of Occupations)

As for economic activities, the greatest proportion of job vacancies was recorded in public administration (6.9 %), followed by mining and quarrying (6.8 %), administrative and support service activities (3.3 %), as well as information and communication (2.7 %).

Regional breakdown of the Q1 2025 data shows the largest share of vacant jobs in Riga (3.1 %, or 15.2 thousand) and the smallest in Latgale (1.0 %, or 0.7 thousand). In Zemgale region, 1.4 % of jobs were vacant (0.9 thousand positions), in Kurzeme 1.4 % (1.2 thousand), and in Vidzeme 1.4 % (1.1 thousand).
