Press release

Both year-on-year and month-on-month levels of producer prices in industry reduced by 0.5 %

Central Statistical Bureau data show that in June 2025 industrial producer prices in Latvia fell by 0.5 % compared with June 2024 and also by 0.5 % compared with May 2025.

The year-on-year price level for the domestic market reduced by 1.0 % and for the non-domestic market by 0.1 %. The prices of products exported to euro area countries went down by 1.8 % and of products exported to non-euro area countries went up by 1.5 %.

Price decline in electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply had a downward effect on the level of producer prices. However, price rises in several classes within the manufacture of food products; manufacture of wood and of products of wood and cork, as well as waste collection, treatment and disposal activities, materials recovery played a key role in driving the level of producer prices upward.

Data for May 2025 have been revised.

The month-on-month producer price level decreased by 0.5 %. Industrial prices for the domestic market as well as for the non-domestic market reduced by 0.5 %. The prices of products exported to euro area countries decreased by 1.9 %, whereas of products exported to non-euro area countries grew by 0.6 %.

Lower prices in electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply supported the monthly price level drop. Conversely, higher prices in manufacture of wood and of products of wood and cork as well as in manufacture of selected food products had a counterbalancing impact.

Information on the producer price changes in industry in July 2025 will be published on 21 August.

Methodological information:

Producer price index in industry is an indicator characterizing industrial production price fluctuations over a set period.

The contribution of a given economic activity to the overall industrial producer price index (PPI) is assessed by calculating an impact. Economic activities having insignificant price changes but taking large share of the index can influence the overall PPI more than the products having little share but major price changes.

Information on producer prices in industry is collected from more than 600 businesses and supplemented with tariffs on selected services and enterprises regulated by the Public Utilities Commission. In total, more than 2.5 thousand prices of industrial products and services are used in index calculations – about 1.4 thousand for the domestic market and 1.1 thousand for the non-domestic market.

The published industrial producer price index is revised when updated, corrected, or late data have a significant impact on the overall index within a 12-month period – one exceeding 0.1 percentage point.
