In September, monthly inflation was 0.2 %

The data of the Central Statistical Bureau (CSB) show that in September 2025, compared to August 2025, the average level of consumer prices increased by 0.2 %. With the beginning of the autumn season, the rise in prices of clothing and footwear, along with the drop in prices of goods and services related to transport, mainly passenger transport by air and fuels for transport, contributed the most to the price change.

In September 2025, compared to August 2025, upturn in prices of clothing and footwear (0.2 percentage points), health care (0.1 percentage point), goods and services related to housing (0.1 percentage point), education group (0.1 percentage point), as well as downturn in prices of goods and services related to transport (0.2 percentage points), furnishings (0.1 percentage point) contributed the most to the price level changes.

Over the month, prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages grew by 0.1 %. Price rise for coffee (2.6 %) and poultry (2.3 %) had the strongest upward influence on the average price level within the group. Mainly affected by the end of sales campaigns, prices of dried, salted or smoked meat (1.1 %), milk (2.0 %), butter (2.5 %) went up. But prices of cheese and curd (3.1 %), fresh fruit (2.3 %) and bread (0.6 %), mainly wheat bread, fell due to the discounts. Downturn was registered in prices of potatoes (of 11.8 %).

Prices within clothing and footwear group on average rose by 3.2 %. As the new autumn season’s range and collection of goods entered the market, prices of garments increased by 3.8 %, of footwear – by 2.5 %.

Average price level of goods and services related to housing rose by 0.4 %. The most significant price rise within the group was registered for water supply (3.5 %) and sewerage collection (4.0 %). Average price level of electricity also went up (0.3 %).

Within the furnishings group prices reduced on average by 1.6 %. Due to the discounts, decrease was recorded in prices of household cleaning and maintenance products (3.0 %) and household furniture (1.7 %).

Within the health care group prices rose by 1.6 %. Average level of prices of pharmaceutical products grew by 2.1 %. Prices in medical specialist practice (2.1 %) and dental services (1.5 %) went up.

Prices of goods and services related to transport decreased by 1.5 %, which was mainly affected by the drop in prices of passenger transport by air by 7.0 % and fuels for transport by 1.1 %, of which of diesel by 1.2 %, of petrol by 1.0 %, and of auto gas by 1.1 %. Prices of passenger transport by road also went down. 

With the beginning of the new school year, rise was registered in prices of higher education (8.0 %).

The most significant upturns among other commodity groups were recorded in prices of spirits, recreational and sporting services, wine, articles for personal hygiene and beauty products. In turn, prices of hotel services, beer and package holidays went down.

In September, the annual inflation remained stable at 4.1 %

Compared to September 2024, in September 2025 the average level of consumer prices* increased by 4.1 %. The average level of consumer prices was mainly influenced by the rise in prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages (1.8 percentage points), mainly of coffee, poultry, chocolate, eggs, butter, dried, salted or smoked meat. Also, rise in prices of goods and services related to housing (0.7 percentage points), goods and services related to transport (0.3 percentage points), alcoholic beverages and tobacco products (0.3 percentage points) contributed significantly to the price level changes.

Over the year, prices within the group of food and non-alcoholic beverages increased by 6.8 %. Price rise for coffee (of +35.1 %) had the strongest upward influence on the average price level within the group. Prices increased for poultry (20.8 %), chocolate (24.0 %), eggs (18.9 %), butter (19.7 %), dried, salted or smoked meat (3.4 %). Growth was also recorded in prices of vegetable oil (20.5 %), milk (6.4 %), milk products (4.9 %), fresh fruit (4.0 %), bakery products (3.9 %), beef (27.5 %), bread (2.1 %), fruit and vegetable juices (8.3 %), pork (2.8 %), yoghurt (5.0 %). In turn, decline was registered in prices of fresh vegetables (2.4 %), sugar (12.5 %), fresh or chilled fish (7.7 %), potatoes (3.4 %), olive oil (5.1 %).

The average level of alcoholic beverage and tobacco product prices rose by 3.9 %. Over the year average increase of 9.6 % was observed in prices of tobacco products. As prices of spirits and wine went up, alcoholic beverages became more expensive (0.8 %) as well. In turn, prices of beer decreased.

Average price level of goods and services related to housing rose by 4.1 %. Over the year, the most significant rise in the prices was for electricity (+10.8 %). Maintenance charges in multi-occupied buildings (7.8 %), natural gas (10.9 %), services for the maintenance and repair of the dwelling (12.3 %), rentals for housing (5.9 %), water supply (6.4 %), sewage collection (8.4 %) and refuse collection (6.6 %) became more expensive. In turn, heat energy (4.5 %) and solid fuels (4.1 %) became cheaper.

The average level of health care prices grew by 3.7 %. Over the year, prices of dental services, prices in medical specialist practice, services of medical analysis laboratories and x-ray centres, pharmaceutical products went up. 

Prices of goods and services related to transport increased by 2.6 %, which was determined by the rise in prices of fuels for transport by 3.1 %. Prices of diesel went up by 3.2 %, of petrol – by 0.8 %, of auto gas – by 15.2 %. Over the year, prices of passenger transport by air, maintenance and repair of personal transport equipment increased as well. In turn, second-hand motor cars became cheaper.

The average level of restaurant and hotel service prices increased by 5.7 %. Upturn was observed in prices of catering services, of which prices of restaurant and café services rose by 4.5 %, of canteen services by 6.0 % and of fast food services by 7.0 %. Over the year, prices of hotel services also went up by 9.6 %.

The most significant upturns among other commodity groups were recorded in prices of telecommunication services, television subscription fee, pre-primary education, higher education, garments, footwear, recreational and sporting services. In turn, prices of articles for personal hygiene and beauty products, household cleaning and maintenance products as well as motor vehicle insurance went down.

Compared to 2015, in September 2025 consumer prices were 51.7 % higher. Prices of goods increased by 49.6 % and prices of services by 55.7 %.

In September 2025 average consumer price changes in last 12 months, compared to the previous 12 months (annual average inflation) was 3.4 %.

Information on consumer price changes in October 2025 will be published on 10 November.

* The annual inflation reflects consumer price changes, comparing the average price level in the comparison month with the average price level in the corresponding month of the previous year.

 

Methodological information:

 

The consumer price survey is a sample survey with targeted sample at all levels. It is conducted each month from 4th to 20th date, distributing the price collection evenly over the survey period. In 2025, the CPI sample includes 544 goods and services, the prices of which are recorded regularly. Approximately 2 000 trade and services outlets are surveyed. In total, about 24.5 thousand prices are observed each month.
