In July, prices of selected food product groups continue to reduce

The latest data of the Central Statistical Bureau show that in July 2025, mainly, due to the discounts, prices of fresh or chilled fish fell by 13.3 %, of chocolate by 1.9 %, of bakery products by 0.9 %, of curd by 2.4 %, of sweets by 3.7 %.   

In July 2025, compared to June 2025, the average level of consumer prices increased by 0.1 %.

Rise in prices of goods and services related to transport (0.3 percentage points), food and non-alcoholic beverages (0.1 percentage point), as well as drop in prices of clothing and footwear (0.3 percentage points), in miscellaneous goods and services group (0.1 percentage point) contributed the most to the price level changes.

Over the month, prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages grew by 0.3 %. Price rise of fresh fruit (of 3.0 %) and potatoes (9.9 %) had the strongest upward influence on the average price level within the group. Prices of coffee went up by 1.7 %. As the promotions ended, bread (1.2 %) as well as dried, salted or smoked meat (1.2 %), soft drinks (6.9 %) became more expensive. Prices increased for poultry (0.8 %). Decline was registered in prices of fresh vegetables (of 3.4 %). Mainly, due to the discounts, prices of fresh or chilled fish fell by 13.3 %, of chocolate by 1.9 %, of bakery products by 0.9 %, of curd by 2.4 %, of sweets by 3.7 %.

Prices within clothing and footwear group fell by 5.3 %. Over the month, average price level of garments dropped by 6.2 % and of footwear by 3.8 %.

Average price level of goods and services related to housing rose by 0.3 %. The most significant price rise within the group was registered for electricity (0.8 %) and heat energy (0.2 %).

Prices of goods and services related to transport increased by 1.9 %, which was mainly affected by the rise in prices of fuels for transport by 2.6 %, of which of diesel by 4.1 %, of petrol by 1.2 %, but of auto gas reduced by 0.5 %. Prices of passenger transport by air, passenger transport by sea and road also went up.

Prices of goods and services related to recreation and culture rose by 0.5 %. Due to the end of sales prices of pet food went up by 3.9 %. Prices of package holidays and television subscription fee also went up. In turn, prices of flowers decreased.

Within the miscellaneous goods and services group, prices decreased by 1.7 %, mainly due to the sales for articles for personal hygiene and beauty products.

Among other commodity groups, the most notable rise in prices was registered for wine, household furniture, mobile telephone equipment, restaurant and café services and beer. In turn, prices of spirits went down.

The annual consumer price growth rate remained at 3.8 % in July

Compared to July 2024, in July 2025 the average level of consumer prices* increased by 3.8 %. The average level of consumer prices was mainly influenced by the rise in prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages, mainly of coffee, poultry, fresh fruit, chocolate, eggs, butter and dried, salted or smoked meat.

Compared to July 2024, in July 2025 the average level of consumer prices was mainly influenced by the rise in prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages (1.8 percentage points), goods and services related to housing (0.6 percentage points), alcoholic beverages and tobacco products (0.4 percentage points), goods and services related to recreation and culture (0.3 percentage points), health care (0.2 percentage points), restaurant and hotel services (0.2 percentage points).

Over the year, prices within the group of food and non-alcoholic beverages increased by 6.9 %. Price rise for coffee (of 34.2 %) had the strongest upward influence on the average price level within the group. Prices of poultry (17.9 %), fresh fruit (13.2 %), chocolate (29.2 %), eggs (19.3 %), butter (19.8 %) and dried, salted or smoked meat (4.5 %) also went up. Prices increased for milk products (6.9 %), milk (7.1 %), bakery products (4.4 %), vegetable oil (19.9 %), beef (28.9 %), fruit and vegetable juices (7.1 %), cheese and curd (1.9 %), ice cream (6.1 %). Decline, in turn, was registered in prices of potatoes (9.3 %), sugar (18.7 %), fresh or chilled fish (13.4 %), flours and other cereals (3.1 %).

The average level of alcoholic beverage and tobacco product prices rose by 5.9 %. Over the year average increase of 9.6 % was observed in prices of tobacco products. As prices of spirits, beer and wine went up, alcoholic beverages became more expensive (3.9 %) as well.

Average price level of goods and services related to housing rose by 3.3 %. Over the year, the most significant rise in the prices was for electricity (7.1 %). Maintenance charges in multi-occupied buildings (7.8 %), natural gas (10.9 %), services for the maintenance and repair of the dwelling (12.0 %), refuse collection (11.0 %), rentals for housing (3.1 %), sewage collection (4.0 %), and water supply (2.7 %) became more expensive as well. In turn, heat energy (3.5 %) and solid fuels (3.2 %) became cheaper.

The average level of health care prices grew by 3.6 %. Over the year, prices in medical specialist practice, dental services, services of medical analysis laboratories and x-ray centres went up.

Prices of goods and services related to recreation and culture rose by 5.0 %, as prices of television subscription fee, recreational and sporting services, newspapers and magazines, pet food increased.

The average level of restaurant and hotel service prices increased by 5.4 %. Upturn was observed in prices of catering services, of which prices of restaurant and café services rose by 3.9 %, of canteen services by 6.4 % and of fast food services by 6.2 %. Over the year, prices of hotel services also went up by 10.3 %.

Among other commodity groups, the most notable increase was registered in prices of telecommunication services, other services in respect of personal transport equipment, pre-primary education, footwear, retirement home fee for elderly persons, household furniture, passenger transport by air. In turn, fuels for transport (2.5 %), articles for personal hygiene and beauty products, motor vehicle insurance, second-hand motor cars were cheaper.

Compared to 2015, in July 2025 consumer prices were 51.8 % higher. Prices of goods increased by 49.8 % and prices of services by 55.3 %.

In July 2025 average consumer price changes in last 12 months, compared to the previous 12 months (annual average inflation) was 2.9 %.

Information on consumer price changes in August 2025 will be published on 8 September.

* The annual inflation reflects consumer price changes, comparing the average price level in the comparison month with the average price level in the corresponding month of the previous year.

 

Methodological information:

 

The consumer price survey is a sample survey with targeted sample at all levels. It is conducted each month from 4th to 20th date, distributing the price collection evenly over the survey period. In 2025, the CPI sample includes 544 goods and services, the prices of which are recorded regularly. Approximately 2 000 trade and services outlets are surveyed. In total, about 24.5 thousand prices are observed each month.
