1.5 % of total national value added is generated in Valmiera
Experimental statistics data1 of Central Statistical Bureau show that in 2017 value added produced in Valmiera comprised2 EUR 194 million and products manufactured3 – EUR 458 million, which, respectively, made up 1.5 % of value added and 1.4 % of value of products manufactured in the country.
Majority of workplaces in Valmiera neighbourhoods were in Centrs (22 % or 3 416). The largest value added and value of products manufactured was in Apakšstacija, where AS “Valmieras stikla šķiedra” is located (26.5 % or EUR 51 million and EUR 122 million, respectively). The largest value added per one workplace was in Viesturi (EUR 40 thousand), but value of products manufactured – in Apakšstacija (EUR 91 thousand).
“New opportunities and data available will certainly help municipality of Valmiera city not only to acquire better information on the current situation in the city, but also to ensure more efficient planning process of urban development, thus allowing to make data-based decisions, which comply with interests and needs of residents," says Gints Bērtiņš, head of Development Department of Valmiera City Council, about the new data on neighbourhoods of the city.
The largest value added and value of products manufactured in Valmiera were in manufacturing (34 % and 38 %, respectively), which is significantly more than national average (18 % and 23 %, respectively) and more than in other cities under state jurisdiction. The second largest value added and value of products manufactured were in wholesale, retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles (20 % and 16 %, respectively).
Value added generated in local kind-of-activity units4 per one workplace in Valmiera comprised EUR 12 586, slightly less than national average (EUR 12 845), but more than in other cities under state jurisdiction, except of Riga and Ventspils. Value of products manufactured per one workplace in Valmiera was EUR 29 705 – less than in Riga, Ventspils, Liepāja, but more than in other cities under state jurisdiction.

The same as in the country as a whole, also in Valmiera majority (16 %) of all workplaces were in wholesale, retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles. 15 % of workplaces were in manufacturing (3 % more than national average), 10 % – in education (the same as national average).5
In 2017, there were 10 318 employed residents in Valmiera, who worked in 7 643 or 53 % of workplaces in Valmiera (14 377 in total). 12.8 % of workplaces of employed residents of Valmiera were in Riga, but 5 % – in Burtnieki and Kocēni municipalities. The majority of persons employed in workplaces in Valmiera, living outside the city, also were from the neighbouring Burtnieki and Kocēni municipalities – 9 % and 7 %, respectively.
Persons employed living in Valmiera comprised 72 % of residents of the city aged 15–64 years, which is 7 % more than national average.
