In Q 2, growth in visits to tourist accommodation establishments was driven by resident arrivals

According to the Central Statistical Bureau data, which were acquired by compiling the monthly information provided by sector representatives on the activity of tourist accommodation establishments, in Q2 2026 the number of non-resident and resident arrivals at Latvian tourist accommodation establishments comprised 750.0 thousand, which is an increase of 1.2 % compared with Q2 2025. The number of nights spent by visitors at tourist accommodation establishments totalled 1.29 million, which is 0.1 % more than in Q2 2025. The number of non-residents reduced by 0.4 %, while of residents it has gone up by 3.5 %.

In June 2026, compared with the corresponding period of the previous year, the number of both residents and non-residents increased, by 6.3 % and 4.0 %, respectively. In turn, a drop in the number of visitors was registered in May (of residents – by 1.0 %, but of non-residents – by 4.2 %).  In April, the number of residents increased by 4.7 %, but of non-residents reduced by 2.1 %, compared with the corresponding month of the previous year.

The number of non-resident arrivals at tourist accommodation establishments made up 440.6 thousand in Q2 2026 (58.8 % of all arrivals), which is 0.4 % less than in Q2 2025. The number of nights spent by non-residents, compared with the corresponding period last year, has reduced by 2.3 % and comprised 787.5 thousand and the average duration of stay was 1.8 nights¹ (1.8 nights also in Q2 2025).

The majority of non-residents came from Lithuania (70.1 thousand), Germany (48.9 thousand), Estonia (43.7 thousand), Finland (36.8 thousand), the United Kingdom (26.8 thousand), Poland (20.4 thousand), the USA (19.4 thousand), Sweden (16.2 thousand), Spain (14.6 thousand), Norway (11.6 thousand) and Denmark (11.3 thousand).

Most non-residents stayed in Riga (72.1 %), Jūrmala (9.0 %), Mārupe municipality (3.9 %) and Liepāja (2.1 %).

In Q2 2026, 309.4 thousand residents stayed at tourist accommodation establishments, which is a year-over-year increase of 3.5 %. Residents spent 504.9 thousand nights at the establishments, which is an increase of 4 %, compared with the corresponding period last year. The average duration of stay was 1.6 nights (1.6 nights also in Q2 2025).

Mostly residents stayed in Riga (31.2 %), Jūrmala (8.8 %), Liepāja (6.6 %), Cēsis municipality (5.0 %), Tukums municipality (3.3 %), and Valmiera municipality (3.2 %).

Methodological information

The information is compiled from the data provided by the respondents in the monthly Report on the activity of hotels and other tourist accommodation establishments (CSB form 1-Accommodation). Economically active individual merchants and commercial companies whose main kind of economic activity corresponds to NACE Rev. 2.1 classes 55.10, 55.20, 55.30, as well as other merchants, budgetary institutions, associations, farms, and individuals providing short-term accommodation services in tourist accommodation establishments (also in addition to their main kind of economic activity in another sector) are included in the survey as respondents. In Q2 2026 the data on 1 371 accommodations was compiled.
