In Q1 tourist accommodation establishments hosted 447.1 thousand guests

According to the Central Statistical Bureau data, which were acquired by compiling the monthly information provided by sector representatives on the activity of tourist accommodations, in Q1 2026 arrivals at Latvian tourist accommodation establishments totalled 447.1 thousand and the number of nights spent comprised 779.1 thousand, which is 3.0 % less than in Q1 2025. The number of non-residents reduced by 7.2 %, while of residents – has gone up by 2.8 %.

At the beginning of 2026 the drop in the total number of guests was observed in all months of the quarter – in January by 2.7 %, in February by 2.8 % and in March by 3.3 %.


The number of non-resident arrivals at tourist accommodation establishments made up 246.6 thousand in Q1 2026 (55.2 % of all arrivals), which is 7.2 % less than in Q1 2025. The number of nights spent by non-residents, compared with the respective period last year, has reduced by 7.5 % and comprised 447.4 thousand and the average duration of stay was 1.8 nights1 (1.8 nights also in Q1 2025).

The majority of non-residents came from Lithuania (42.2 thousand), Estonia (28.7 thousand), United Kingdom (19.4 thousand), Germany (16.3 thousand), Finland (14.5 thousand), Poland (10 thousand), Sweden (9.8 thousand), USA (9.1 thousand), Spain (8.4 thousand), Norway (7.9 thousand), and Ukraine (7.7 thousand).

Most non-residents were hosted in Riga – 80.4 %, Jūrmala – 5.5 %, Mārupe municipality – 5.3 % and Liepāja – 2.1 %.


In Q1 2026 tourist accommodation establishments hosted 200.5 thousand residents which is a year-over-year increase of 2.8 %. Residents spent 331.7 thousand nights at the establishments, which is an increase of 4 %, compared with the corresponding period last year and the average duration of stay was 1.6 nights1 (1.6 nights also in Q1 2025).

Mostly residents stayed in Riga (36.1 %), Jūrmala (13.5 %), Liepāja (6.5 %), Daugavpils (4.3 %), Cēsis municipality (4.1 %), Sigulda municipality (3.2 %), and Valmiera municipality (2.9 %).

Methodological information

 

The information is compiled from the data provided by the respondents in the monthly Report on the activity of hotels and other accommodation establishments (CSB form 1-Accommodation). Economically active individual merchants and commercial companies whose main kind of economic activity corresponds to NACE Rev. 2.1 classes 55.10, 55.20, 55.30, as well as other merchants, budgetary institutions, associations, farms, and individuals providing short-term accommodation services in tourist accommodation establishments (also in addition to their main kind of economic activity in another sector) are included in the survey as respondents. In Q1 2026 the data on 1 059 accommodations was compiled. 

 

1 If during a trip guest stays overnight in several places in Latvia, he/she is registered in each tourist accommodation.
