In 2025, the number of visitors at tourist accommodation establishments 4.5 % larger than a year ago
According to the Central Statistical Bureau data, which were acquired by compiling the monthly information provided by sector representatives on the activity of tourist accommodations, in 2025 arrivals at Latvian tourist accommodation establishments totalled 2.8 million, which is 4.5 % more than in 2024. The number of nights spent by visitors at tourist accommodation establishments totalled 5.0 million, which is 6.1 % more than in 2024.
In 2025 non-resident arrivals at the tourist accommodation establishments accounted for 59.3 % or 1.7 million people, which is 5.3 % more than in 2024. The number of nights spent by non-resident visitors, compared with 2024, has grown by 8.3 % and comprised 3.1 million. Non-residents on average spent 1.8 nights1 at the tourist accommodation establishments (1.8 nights also in 2024).
The majority of non-resident visitors came from Lithuania (272.5 thousand), Estonia (188.1 thousand), Germany (165.2 thousand), Finland (121.2 thousand), United Kingdom (113.4 thousand), Poland (81.0 thousand), USA (64.2 thousand), Spain (58.1 thousand), Sweden (56.2 thousand), Norway (45.1 thousand) and Italy (41.1 thousand).
Compared to arrivals in 2024, in 2025 there was a significant increase in the number of visitors from the United Kingdom (an increase of 19.7 % or 18.7 thousand), Poland (9.4 % or 7.0 thousand), Finland (7.9 % or 8.8 thousand) and Estonia (4.2 % or 7.6 thousand).
The majority of non-residents stayed in Riga (71.8 %), which was followed by Jūrmala (7.7 %), Mārupe municipality (3.8 %), Liepāja (2.8 %), Sigulda municipality (1.7 %), Ventspils and Cēsis municipalities (1.4 % in each).
The number of resident arrivals registered at tourist accommodation establishments in 2025 totalled 1.1 million, which is a year-over-year increase of 3.2 %. The number of nights spent by residents comprised 1.9 million – that is an increase of 2.7 %. Residents on average spent 1.7 nights at the tourist accommodation establishments (1.7 nights in 2024).
Mostly residents stayed in Riga (28.3 %), Jūrmala (10.2 %), Liepāja (6.4 %), Cēsis municipality (4.7 %), Daugavpils (3.8 %), Kuldīga and Valmiera municipalities (3.1 % in each).
In Q4 2025 the number of non-resident and resident arrivals at Latvian tourist accommodation establishments comprised 573.5 thousand, which is 2.7 % more than in Q4 2024. Visitors spent 1.0 million nights, which, compared to the corresponding period a year ago, is a rise of 3.9 %. In the last quarter of the year, compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, the number of non-resident visitors increased by 0.5 % and comprised 335.4 thousand, but the number of resident visitors rose by 6.0 % and comprised 238.1 thousand.
In December 2025, 193.9 thousand non-resident and resident visitors were accommodated at tourist accommodation establishments, which is 3.0 % more than in December 2024. Out of them 59.3 % or 115.1 thousand were non-resident visitors and 40.7 % or 78.9 thousand were resident visitors. As compared to December last year, the number of nights spent by visitors comprised 346.5 thousand, which is 4.9 % more.
In December, average room occupancy rate of hotels and similar accommodation2 in Latvia was 40.9 % (a year-over-year rise of 1.1 percentage points), 53.5 % – in Riga (increase of 1.2 percentage points).
The monthly indicators of tourist accommodation establishments will continue to be available in the official statistics portal database tables, while press releases on tourist accommodation indicators in 2026 will be published only on a quarterly basis.
Methodological information
The information is compiled from the data provided by the respondents in the monthly Report on the activity of hotels and other accommodation establishments (CSB form 1-Accommodation). Economically active individual merchants and commercial companies whose main kind of economic activity corresponds to NACE Rev. 2.1 classes 55.10, 55.20, 55.30, as well as other merchants, budgetary institutions, associations, farms, and individuals providing short-term accommodation services in tourist accommodation establishments (also in addition to their main kind of economic activity in another sector) are included in the survey as respondents. In 2025 the data on 1 345 accommodations was compiled.
1 If during a trip visitor stays overnight in several places in Latvia, he/she is registered in each tourist accommodation.
2 Average room occupancy rate applies to hotels and similar accommodations; it is not calculated for other types of accommodations (such as guest houses, holiday houses, camping grounds, etc.).
