Arrivals at tourist accommodations up by 1.2 % in July
According to the Central Statistical Bureau data, which were acquired by compiling the monthly information provided by sector representatives on the activity of tourist accommodations, in July 2025 arrivals at Latvian tourist accommodation establishments totalled 405.6 thousand, which is 1.2 % more than in July 2024.
Resident and non-resident visitors spent 741.9 thousand nights at the establishments – an increase of 3.2 % compared to the year before. 235.1 thousand or 58.0 % were non-residents; most of them (42.7 thousand) came from Lithuania. The number of visitors from Italy (25.2 %) and Poland (17.3 %) has gone up. The majority of visitors (55.7 % of non-residents and 19.1 % of residents) stayed in Riga, which was followed by visitors having stayed in Jūrmala (11.9 % of non-residents and 7.3 % of residents).
During the first seven months of this year, tourist establishments accommodated 1.6 million resident and non-resident visitors, which is 5.1 % more than during the same period of 2024.
Compared to June, in July 2025, the number of visitors has increased by 35.6 %, the number of nights spent by them – by 42.8 %.
The number of non-resident arrivals at tourist accommodation establishments made up 235.1 thousand in July 2025 (58.0 % of all arrivals), which is 0.9 % less than in July 2024. The number of nights spent by non-residents, compared to July 2024, has grown by 4.1 % and comprised 447.6 thousand. Non-residents on average spent 1.9 nights1 at the tourist accommodation establishments (1.8 nights in July last year).
The majority of non-resident visitors came from Lithuania (42.7 thousand), Germany (28.2 thousand), Finland (27.2 thousand), Estonia (26.4 thousand), Poland (11.6 thousand), United Kingdom (9.1 thousand), USA (8.9 thousand), Spain (8.3 thousand), Sweden (7.4 thousand) and Norway (5.6 thousand).
The majority of non-residents stayed in Riga (55.7 %), which was followed by Jūrmala (11.9 %), Liepāja (4 %), Mārupe municipality and Ventspils (3.4 % in each), Sigulda municipality (2.7 %), Limbaži and Cēsis municipality (2.6 % in each).
The number of resident arrivals registered at tourist accommodation establishments July 2025 totalled 170.5 thousand, which is a year-over-year increase of 4.3 %. Resident visitors spent 294.4 thousand nights at the establishments (1.7 % more), and the average duration of resident stay was 1.7 nights (1.8 nights a year ago).
Most resident travellers were accommodated in Riga (19.1 %), Jūrmala (7.3 %), Cēsis municipality (5.5 %), Talsi municipality (5.3 %), Liepāja (4.8 %), Kuldīga municipality (4.5 %), Tukums municipality (4.4 %), and Limbaži municipality (4.2 %).
Average room occupancy rate of hotels and similar accommodation2 in Latvia was 60.9 % in July (a drop of 0.2 percentage points, compared to July 2024), 69.2 % – in Riga (a fall of 1.1 percentage point, compared to July of the previous year).
Methodological information
The information is compiled from the data provided by the respondents in the monthly Report on the activity of hotels and other accommodation establishments (CSB form 1-Accommodation). Economically active individual merchants and commercial companies whose main kind of economic activity corresponds to NACE Rev. 2.1 classes 55.10, 55.20, 55.30, as well as other merchants, budgetary institutions, associations, farms, and individuals providing short-term accommodation services in tourist accommodation establishments (also in addition to their main kind of economic activity in another sector) are included in the survey as respondents. In July the data on 1 345 accommodations was compiled.
1 If during a trip visitor stays overnight in several places in Latvia, he/she is registered in each tourist accommodation.
2 Average room occupancy rate applies to hotels and similar accommodations; it is not calculated for other types of accommodations (such as guest houses, holiday houses, camping grounds, etc.).
