In Q2 the number of visitors at tourist accommodation establishments 5.1 % larger than a year ago
According to the Central Statistical Bureau data, which were compiled from the monthly information provided by sector representatives on the activity of tourist accommodations, in Q2 2025 arrivals at Latvian tourist accommodation establishments totalled 741.3 thousand, which is 5.1 % more than in Q2 2024. Resident and non-resident visitors spent 1.3 million nights at the establishments – an increase of 7.3 % compared to the year before. In turn, in June the number of resident and non-resident visitors at the establishments accounted to 299.1 thousand – a decrease of 0.5 % compared to the year before.
The number of non-resident arrivals at tourist accommodation establishments made up 174.3 thousand in June 2025 (58.3 % of all arrivals), which is 0.4 % less than in June 2024. Non-resident visitors spent 314.9 thousand nights at the establishments (up by 3.3 % year-over-year), and the average duration of stay was 1.8 nights1 (1.7 nights in June 2024).
The greatest number of non-resident travellers came from Lithuania (28.1 thousand), followed by Germany (23.1 thousand), Estonia (18.8 thousand), Finland (15.8 thousand), the United Kingdom (9.5 thousand), the United States (9 thousand), Poland (8.5 thousand), Sweden (4.8 thousand), Spain (4.3 thousand) and Norway (4.1 thousand).
Most non-resident visitors were accommodated in Riga (65.7 %), Jūrmala (8.7 %), Mārupe municipality (3.8 %), Liepāja (3.5 %), Sigulda municipality (2.5 %), Ventspils and Limbaži municipality (2 % in each).
The number of resident arrivals registered at tourist accommodation establishments June 2025 totalled 124.8 thousand, which is a year-over-year decrease of 0.6 %. Resident visitors spent 204.5 thousand nights at the establishments (1.8 % less), and the average duration of resident stay was 1.6 nights (1.7 nights a year ago).
Most resident travellers were accommodated in Riga (24.9 %), followed by Jūrmala (7.6 %), Cēsis municipality (5.9 %), Liepāja (5.7 %), Tukums and Talsi municipalities (3.8 % in each), as well as Valmiera and Kuldīga municipalities (3.7 % in each).
Average room occupancy rate of hotels and similar accommodation in Latvia was 51.1 % in June (a rise of 0.5 percentage points, compared to June 2024), 61.9 % – in Riga (an increase of 0.1 percentage point, compared to June of the previous year).
In Q2 2025 the number of non-resident and resident arrivals at Latvian tourist accommodation establishments comprised 741.3 thousand, which is 5.1 % more than in Q2 2024. Resident and non-resident visitors spent 1.3 million nights at the establishments – an increase of 7.3 % compared to the year before.
The number of non-resident arrivals registered at tourist accommodation establishments in Q2 2025 totalled 442.4 thousand, which is a year-over-year increase of 5.5 %. The number of nights spent by them has risen by 9.6 % and comprised 806.2 thousand. In turn, the number of Latvian residents comprised 299 thousand, which is 4.4 % more than in Q2 2024. Number of nights spent by them comprised 485.3 thousand – 3.5 % more, compared to the corresponding quarter of the previous year.
In the 1st half of 2025 the number of visitors in Latvian tourist accommodation establishments comprised 1.2 million, which is 6.5 % more than in the 1st half of 2024. The number of nights spent by visitors has grown by 8.6 % and comprised 2.1 million nights. Out of all visitors 708.2 thousand or 58.9 % were non-resident visitors, but 493.9 thousand or 41.1 % were Latvian residents.
Methodological information
The information is compiled from the data provided by the respondents in the monthly Report on the activity of hotels and other accommodation establishments (CSB form 1-Accommodation). Economically active individual merchants and commercial companies whose main kind of economic activity corresponds to NACE Rev. 2.1 classes 55.10, 55.20, 55.30, as well as other merchants, budgetary institutions, associations, farms, and individuals providing short-term accommodation services in tourist accommodation establishments (also in addition to their main kind of economic activity in another sector) are included in the survey as respondents. In June the data on 1 333 accommodations was compiled.
1 If during a trip visitor stays overnight in several places in Latvia, he/she is registered in each tourist accommodation.
