Arrivals at tourist accommodations up by 9.4 % in May

According to the Central Statistical Bureau, in May 2025 arrivals at Latvian tourist accommodation establishments totalled 250.3 thousand, which is 9.4 % more than in May 2024. Resident and non-resident visitors spent 430 thousand nights at the establishments – an increase of 11.5 % compared to the year before.

During the first five months of this year, tourist establishments accommodated 903 thousand Latvian visitors, which is 9.1 % more than during the same period of 2024.

The number of non-resident arrivals at tourist accommodation establishments made up 152.3 thousand in May 2025 (60.9 % of all arrivals), which is 9.9 % more than in May 2024. Non-resident visitors spent 276.1 thousand nights at the establishments (up by 13.3 % year-over-year), and the average duration of stay was 1.8 nights1 (1.8 nights also in May 2024).

The greatest number of non-resident travellers came from Lithuania (18.9 thousand), followed by Germany (17 thousand), Estonia (15.5 thousand), the United Kingdom (11.6 thousand), Finland (10.8 thousand), Poland (8.6 thousand), the United States (7.1 thousand), Sweden (6.3 thousand), Norway (5 thousand), Spain (4.6 thousand), and France (4.1 thousand).

Most non-resident visitors were accommodated in Riga (77.4 %), Jūrmala (6.1 %), Mārupe municipality (3.5 %), Liepāja (2.1 %), Sigulda municipality (1.5 %), Cēsis municipality and Ventspils (1.2 % in each).

The number of resident arrivals registered at tourist accommodation establishments in May 2025 totalled 98 thousand, which is a year-over-year increase of 8.7 %. Resident visitors spent 153.9 thousand nights at the establishments (8.5 % more), and the average duration of resident stay was 1.6 nights (same figure as a year ago).

Most resident travellers were accommodated in Riga (30.6 %), Jūrmala (9.8 %), Liepāja (6.5 %), Cēsis municipality (4.5 %), Daugavpils (4.1 %), Kuldīga municipality (3.4 %), Valmiera municipality (2.9 %), and Sigulda municipality (2.8 %).

The net occupancy rate of bedrooms in hotels and similar accommodation was 47.5 % in Latvia and 60.8 % in Riga ­– a year-over-year increase of 4.4 percentage points and 4.5 percentage points, respectively.
