In November, the number of arrivals at tourist accommodation establishments 10.7 % larger than a year ago
According to the data of the Central Statistical Bureau, in November 2024 the number of non-resident and resident visitors comprised 172.5 thousand, which is 10.7 % more than in November 2023. Visitors spent 299.5 thousand nights at the establishments, which is 15.5 % more than in November 2023.
During the eleven months of last year 2.5 million non-resident and resident visitors were hosted in Latvian hotels, guest houses and similar accommodation, which is a 10.7 % rise, compared to the same period of 2023. On the other hand, looking at these data compared to 2019, i.e. the time before the COVID-19 pandemic, it can be seen that tourism sector is still recovering gradually – in the 11 months of last year, the number of visitors in accommodation establishments was 5.7 % fewer than in the first eleven months of 2019.
In November 2024, out of all visitors 59.4 % or 102.4 thousand were non-residents, which is 14.5 % more than in November last year. The number of nights spent by non-residents, compared to November 2023, has grown by 20.4 % and comprised 182.2 thousand. Non-residents on average spent 1.8 nights1 at the tourist accommodation establishments (1.7 nights in November 2023).
The majority of non-resident visitors came from Lithuania (16.2 thousand), Estonia (11.6 thousand), United Kingdom (8.7 thousand), Germany (6.8 thousand), Finland (5.4 thousand), Poland (4.6 thousand), Spain (4.4 thousand), Sweden (3.8 thousand), Norway (3.5 thousand) and USA (3.3 thousand).
Most often non-residents could be met in Riga – 81.5 %, Jūrmala – 5.1 %, Mārupe municipality – 3.7 % and Liepāja – 3.1 %.
In November 2024 tourist accommodation establishments hosted 70.1 thousand were hosted in accommodation establishments, which is 5.7 % more than in November 2023. The number of nights spent by them comprised 117.4 thousand, which is a rise of 8.6 %, compared to November last year. Residents on average spent 1.7 nights at the tourist accommodation establishments (1.6 nights in November 2023).
Mostly residents stayed in Riga (35.2 %), Jūrmala (12.6 %), Liepāja (7.8 %), Daugavpils (3.8 %), Sigulda municipality (3.3 %), Cēsis municipality (3.3 %) and Valmiera municipality (2.9 %).
Average room occupancy rate of hotels and similar accommodation in Latvia was 37.9 % in November (a rise of 1.8 percentage points, compared to November 2023), 47.7 % – in Riga (an increase of 2.3 percentage points, compared to November of the previous period).
