In 2024 more passengers transported by road and air transport
Central Statistical Bureau (CSB) data show that in 2024, compared to 2023, passenger traffic by train, tram, trolleybus and aircraft has risen, but by regular bus traffic lines and ferries reduced.
In 2024, the number of passengers carried by road transport comprised 191.2 million passengers, which is 2 % more than in 2023.
13.9 % more passengers transported by rail transport
The number of passengers carried by rail transport comprised 19.5 million, a rise of 13.9 %, compared to 2023.
100.9 million passengers were carried by regular bus traffic lines, which is 2.7 % less than in 2023.
The number of passengers carried by trolleybuses comprised 39.6 million passengers, a rise of 1.7 %, but by trams – 31.2 million passengers, a growth of 12.7 %.

In 2024, 360 thousand passengers arrived at and departed from Ventspils and Liepāja ports with ferries. Their number has dropped by 4.6 %, compared to 2023. At Ventspils port passenger turnover comprised 258.6 thousand passengers, 9.9 % less, but at Liepāja port – 101.4 thousand passengers, which is 12.1 % more. Ferry traffic at Riga Passenger Terminal is closed since 2021.
In 2024 the number of passengers having arrived at and departed from the Riga International Airport comprised 7.1 million, which is 7.3 % more than in 2023.
