In H1 a rise in passenger traffic by all modes of transport

Central Statistical Bureau (CSB) data show that in H1 2023, compared to H1 2022, passenger traffic by all modes of transport has grown.

During H1 2023, the number of passengers carried by land passenger transport comprised 93.1 million passengers, which is 22.9 % more than in H1 2022.

The number of passengers carried by rail transport comprised 8.2 million, a rise of 19.5 %. The number of passengers carried by national transport rose by 19.5 %, but the number of passengers carried by international transport by 32.1 %.

52 million passengers were carried by regular bus traffic lines, which is 20.3 % more than a year ago. Number of passengers carried in national lines increased by 20.3 %, but the number of passengers carried in international lines by 3.2 %.

The number of passengers carried by trolleybuses comprised 19.3 million passengers, a rise of 42.5 %, but by trams – 13.6 million passengers, a growth of 12 %.

In H1 2023, 171.6 thousand passengers arrived at and departed from Latvian ports with ferries. Their number has increased by 3.5 %, compared to the corresponding period of the previous Ferry traffic at Riga Passenger Terminal was closed. At Ventspils port passenger turnover comprised 133.2 thousand passengers, 2.6 % more, but at Liepāja port – 38.4 thousand passengers, 7 % more.

In H1 2023 the number of passengers arrived at and departed from the Riga International Airport comprised 3 million, which is 37.1 % more than in H1 2022.
