In Q1 a significant rise in passenger traffic by all modes of transport

Central Statistical Bureau (CSB) data show that in Q1 2023, compared to Q1 2022, passenger traffic by all modes of transport has increased.

During Q1 2023, the number of passengers carried by land passenger transport comprised 45.6 million passengers, which is 33.6 % more than in Q1 2022.

The number of passengers carried by rail transport comprised 3.7 million, a rise of 31.1 %. The number of passengers carried by national transport rose by 31.1 %, but the number of passengers carried by international transport by 80 %.

25.6 million passengers were carried by regular bus traffic lines, which is 29.7 % more than a year ago. Number of passengers carried in national lines increased by 29.6 %, but the number of passengers carried in international lines – 1.6 times.

The number of passengers carried by trolleybuses comprised 9.5 million passengers, a rise of 54.3 %, but by trams – 6.8 million passengers, a growth of 25.5 %.

In Q1 2023, 74.1 thousand passengers arrived at and departed from Latvian ports. Their number has increased by 6.8 %, compared to the corresponding period of the previous year. In Q1 ferry traffic at Riga Passenger Terminal was still closed. At Ventspils port passenger turnover comprised 59 thousand passengers, 3.5 % more, but at Liepāja port – 15.1 thousand passengers, 22 % more.

In Q1 2023 the number of passengers arrived at and departed from the Riga International Airport comprised 1.3 million, which is 62 % more than in Q1 2022.
