In April 2021 passenger turnover at Riga International Airport has increased 18 times, as compared to April 2020, however that is just 9 % of the passenger turnover in April 2019. The total number of flights comprised 1 776, which is five times more. Data compiled by the Central Statistical Bureau show that the volume of cargo and post loaded and unloaded has increased two times¹.

For the first time during the last 13 months there is an increase in the number of passengers at Riga International Airport, compared both to the previous month, and to the same month a year ago. To reach the level of passenger turnover that was before the beginning of Covid-19 pandemic, the number of passengers has to be 12 times larger. In April 2019 there were 646 thousand passengers. On March 17 last year international flights were cancelled and until May only flights authorized with the special permission of the Minister of Transport were allowed.

The total number of passenger arrivals and departures at Riga International Airport in April 2021 comprised 55.2 thousand – or 65.8 % more than in the previous month.

In April 2021, the volume of cargo and post unloaded comprised 1.3 thousand tonnes, which is 2.8 times more than in April 2020, but the volume of cargo loaded comprised 0.8 thousand tonnes – an increase of 37.7 %.
