Prices up for coniferous roundwood, down for deciduous
Central Statistical Bureau data show that average purchase prices of coniferous roundwood increased in H2 2024, compared to H1 2024, while those of deciduous roundwood decreased. The most significant price rise was recorded for pine sawlogs under 14 cm in diameter and the largest decline for birch veneer logs of category A.
In H2 2024, compared to H1 2024, prices of coniferous sawlogs rose most significantly for pine sawlogs under 14 cm in diameter (by 10 % (EUR 8/m3) on average), followed by spruce sawlogs under 14 cm in diameter (10 % (EUR 7/m3)), spruce roundwood 14–18 cm in diameter and pine sawlogs 14–18 cm in diameter (9 %, (EUR 7/m3) for each on average))1. Purchase prices of spruce sawlogs over 26 cm in diameter grew at a slower rate (6 % (5 EUR/m3) on average), whereas prices of pine roundwood 18–26 cm in diameter, spruce sawlogs 18–26 cm in diameter, and pine sawlogs over 26 cm in diameter saw the smallest increase (4 % (4 EUR/m3) for each on average).

Compared to H1 2024, procurement prices in the deciduous roundwood segment rose the most for aspen sawlogs over 24 cm in diameter (7 % (6 EUR/m3) on average), while the smallest increase was recorded for category B birch veneer logs and packing timber (1 % (EUR 1/m3) for each on average). The mildest price decline was observed for black alder sawlogs over 24 cm in diameter (2 % (2 EUR/m3) on average), followed by a slightly larger drop for birch sawlogs over 24 cm in diameter (7 % (8 EUR/m3) on average), aspen sawlogs 18–24 cm in diameter (7 % (5 EUR/m3) on average), birch sawlogs 18–24 cm in diameter (7 % (8 EUR/m3) on average), and black alder sawlogs 18–24 cm in diameter (8 % (5 EUR/m3) on average). The most significant overall decrease was recorded for category A birch veneer logs (10 % (EUR 16/m3) on average).

Compared to H2 2023, coniferous sawlog segment saw the most notable increase in purchase prices of spruce sawlogs under 14 cm in diameter (6 % (5 EUR/m3) on average) and pine sawlogs 14–18 cm in diameter (5 % (4 EUR/m3) on average). A slight upturn was recorded for pine sawlogs under 14 cm in diameter (2 % (1 EUR/m3) on average) and spruce sawlogs 14–18 cm in diameter (1 % (1 EUR/m3) on average). Prices of other coniferous sawlogs declined by 3–8 %, with the most significant decrease observed for spruce sawlogs over 26 cm in diameter (8 % or (8 EUR/m3) on average).
In the deciduous sawlog segment, price trends varied by quality grade. The highest increase was recorded for aspen sawlogs over 24 cm in diameter (20 % (EUR 19/m3) on average), followed by a smaller rise for aspen roundwood 18–24 cm in diameter (8 % (5 EUR/m3) on average). The lowest price growth was observed for veneer logs of category A (1 % (2 EUR/m3 on average) and black alder sawlogs over 24 cm in diameter (1 % (1 EUR/m3) on average).
Purchase prices of packing timber remained unchanged, staying at an average of 60 EUR/m3. Prices of other deciduous sawlogs declined by 2–18 %, with the largest drop recorded for black alder sawlogs over 24 cm in diameter (18 % (10 EUR/m3) on average).
