Data description
The balance of reserves of construction raw materials, peat, sapropel and therapeutic mud includes such changes in reserves as extraction, losses, write‑off of reserves not confirmed during extraction in accordance with the procedures prescribed by regulatory enactments, extraction not accounted for in previous years, and corrections of errors.
The balance is prepared by mineral extraction sites (mineral extraction limit areas specified in subsoil use licences for mineral extraction and in permits for the extraction of commonly occurring minerals), in accordance with the volumes set in the extraction limits. The balance also includes extraction sites (based on data submitted by operators) for which valid documentation—a licence or permit (or extraction limit)—is in force, but where no mineral extraction took place in the reporting year (reason for change: “no changes”).
The entry of mineral extraction data into the LVĢMC Geological Information System (https://zdzis.lvgmc.lv/atradnes) is carried out by subsoil users (mineral extractors) or, in certain cases, by LVĢMC specialists.

Comparable data in the database of the Official Statistics Portal are available for the period since 2012.
Full information on the deposits of construction raw materials, peat, sapropel and therapeutic mud used in a specific year is available in the LVĢMC Geological Information System at https://zdzis.lvgmc.lv/bilance, as well as in year‑by‑year .pdf and .xls files on the LVĢMC website at https://videscentrs.lvgmc.lv/lapas/krajumu-bilance.
Balances of mineral reserves in an analogous format are available in the State Geological Fund starting from 1959. In the Deposit Register of the Unified Environmental Information System, the balance of reserves of construction raw materials, peat, sapropel and therapeutic mud for the reserves exploited in a given year is available for the period since 2001.

7. Statistical processing (data source etc.)
Source data
The following sources were used in compiling the balance: reserve balances from previous years; documentation issued for subsoil use by the State Geological Service, the state agency “Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Agency”, and the State Environmental Service (hereinafter – SES); reports on mineral extraction submitted by the regional environmental boards of the SES; information provided by subsoil users (mineral extractors) on the extracted minerals; and data from the LVĢMC Geological Information System (https://zdzis.lvgmc.lv/atradnes).
Data collection
The balances compile data on reserves in active use at the deposits exploited in the respective year. Up to and including 2018, the remaining mineral reserves of construction raw materials, peat, sapropel and therapeutic mud were reported for each deposit as a whole.
Starting from 2019, the balance has been compiled by mineral extraction sites.
Data compilation
Stock balance of mineral resources (construction raw materials, peat, sapropel and healing sludge) has been prepared by the state Ltd “Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre” in accordance with Article 5 of the Law of the Republic of Latvia “On Subterranean Depths”.
