Data description
The Agricultural Census 2001 was aimed at acquiring general information on number of agricultural holdings, land use, number of livestock and poultry, agricultural buildings and machinery, production and social infrastructure, labour force in agriculture, auxiliary activities of farms, as well as finding out farming types and economic size of holdings.

In 2001, Latvia conducted the first Agricultural Census since country regained its independence. The Census was conducted in line with the requirements of the World Programme for the Census of Agriculture 2000 (WCA 2000), EE Council Regulation (ECC) No 571/88 (of 28 February 1988) and regulatory enactment of the Republic of Latvia.

Data source – Agricultural Census. Agricultural holdings are selected from the Statistical Farm Register. The data are collected in compliance with the CSB questionnaire "Farm Structure Survey 2001".

1 June 2001 (number of livestock, machinery, structures) or 12 months before the reference date – from 1 June 2000 to 30 May 2001 (in respect to the labour force in agriculture).
