Data description
The collected data provide official statistics on higher education and the activities of higher education institutions in Latvia. Data on higher education institutions, number of students, number of academic staff are used to assess higher education acquisition at both national and international levels.

The CSB report "Higher education institutions, colleges report".
Starting from 2024 both the CSB report "Higher education institutions, colleges report" and data from the State Education Information System (VIIS) are used.
Data collection
Until 2023, the CSB report "Higher education institutions, colleges report" allowed obtaining data on enrolment in higher education institutions and colleges, entrants, graduates with degree or qualification, academic staff, funding and its use.
Starting from 2024 the CSB report "Higher education institutions, colleges report" allows obtaining data on staff of higher education institutions, funding and its use. Data on enrolment, entrants, graduates with degree or qualification are obtained from the State Education Information System (VIIS) of the Ministry of Education and Science.
Starting from the school year 1993/1994 higher education institution and college enrolment includes also students of master programmes.
Starting from the school year 2003/2004 vocational education institutions ensuring acquisition of the 1st level vocational higher education are included in the number of higher education institutions and colleges.
Higher education institution and college enrolment in breakdown by field of education meets the Latvian Classification of Education approved on 13 June 2017.
Data compilation
Data are acquired with the help of full-scope survey.
The CSB report "Higher education institutions, colleges report" is submitted by economically active higher education institutions founded by the state and legal entities and registered in the VIIS of the Ministry of Education and Science. Administrative data are obtained from VIIS (State Education Information System).
