Statistical population
The report on waste "3-Waste" is submitted by enterprises, institutions and organisations producing municipal and hazardous waste and which have submitted an application or already have obtained permission to perform pollutive activities of category A or B, as well as enterprises having certificate for pollutive activities of category C for repair and maintenance workshop of land motor vehicles, mobile agricultural machinery and mobile machinery unusable for transport and other mobile machinery of all categories (L, M, N, O), waste dealers and waste management intermediaries, producers of hazardous waste and producers of waste who remove waste from the territory of Latvia for waste disposal, recycling or recovery by themselves. The report should be submitted also by all legal persons, which have any kind of permission for waste management.

Data on municipal and hazardous waste are obtained from the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre report 3-Waste "Report on Waste".

Generated amount of municipal waste – approximate estimate of the total amount of municipal waste generated. This amount is calculated by subtracting the types of waste not unambiguously classified as waste (manure, wood waste used as fuel, scrap metal) form the total amount of waste generated and collected.
