Data description
In 2026, within the framework of the Eurostat project Development of new transport statistics, the pedestrian and bicycle path, advisory cycle lane, bicycle lane, bicycle path, and other micromobility infrastructure.
Given the importance of developing sustainable mobility, the need for such data is becoming increasingly evident. Micromobility infrastructure is an essential element both in the implementation of the European Green Deal objectives and in achieving Goal 11 of the United Nations Sustainable Development Agenda, which aims at creating safe, resilient, and sustainable cities and human settlements.
The data include micromobility infrastructure that had been commissioned Central Statistical Bureau collected data on micromobility infrastructure in Latvia for the first time.
Purpose of the survey was to collect information on the total length of micromobility infrastructure in Latvian municipalities, broken down by type of micromobility infrastructure: pedestrian and bicycle path, combined and was available for use within the territory of the respective municipality by 31 December 2025.

The data were obtained through a full-scale survey of municipalities using a questionnaire developed by the Central Statistical Bureau and adapted to Eurostat’s methodological requirements. The Micromobility Infrastructure Survey was carried out within the framework of the Eurostat grant project Development of New Transport Statistics, in accordance with the Grant Agreement No. 101213463–2024-LV-TRANSPORT-STATS-IBA between the European Commission and the Central Statistical Bureau; project ID code G-24.16.
Data collection method:

Data collection
Data on micromobility infrastructure were collected from 1 February to 15 April 2026, with all municipalities in Latvia included in the survey. Throughout the entire data collection period, municipalities had the opportunity to complete the questionnaire online. In addition, statisticians provided telephone consultations regarding the completion of the questionnaire and the data to be submitted.
If the data requested in the survey were available to the municipality in a geospatial data format, they could be submitted by e-mail as a ShapeFile or GeoPackage file. Information on the total length of micromobility infrastructure and its length by type of infrastructure was extracted from the submitted geospatial data files.
Data compilation
Micromobility Infrastructure in Latvian Municipalities in 2025 is a full survey, with data collected from all municipalities in Latvia. No sample is drawn, and the data are not extrapolated.
The data compiled describe micromobility infrastructure for Latvia as a whole and at the municipal level, covering 35 municipalities and 7 state cities in accordance with the administrative territorial division.
