Source data
Until 2007, statistics on the number of livestock were obtained from sample surveys. Since the end of 2008, information from the Animal Register of the Rural Support Service of Latvia has been used to provide statistics on the number of cattle, sheep, goats, horses, poultry, rabbits and bee flocks.
Statistical data source for the number of pigs until the end of 2020 was questionnaire 3-ls “Livestock” (sample survey).
Since the end of 2021, the data source for the statistical data on the number of all livestock species (cattle, pigs, sheep, goats, horses, poultry, rabbits and bee flocks) is the Animal Register of the Rural Support Service of Latvia.
Data collection
Sample (for 2008-2020) has been formed as stratified simple random sample. Holdings are stratified basing on their location (NUTS 3 level region), type of farming and economic size.
