Source data
Data are obtained and collected from CSB statistical report 1-C "Survey on personal and business trips of Latvian residents".
Data collection
Information on domestic trips made by Latvian residents was obtained by surveying 12 thsd private households per year or a thousand each month.
The number of travellers, non-travellers and reasons for not travelling published in the TUL090, TUL110 and TUL120 tables are obtained from three thousand respondents who at the beginning of the year are asked additional questions about their participation in leisure and other personal trips made during the previous calendar year.
Two-stage sampling design is applied for survey.
First stage sampling design is a stratified systematic pps sample (probabilities proportional to size, probability for inclusion of a unit in the sample is proportional to the size of the unit). Sample strata formed according to the type of territories: Riga, eight cities under state jurisdiction (excluding Riga and Ogre), Ogre and other cities and rural territories. The sample unit is territory (a polygon shaped area).
Second stage sampling design is the simple random sampling. Sample units are private dwellings.
Data compilation
Data on the number of travellers, number of trips, overnight stays and expenditure during the trip are obtained generalizing information received in the survey over the average number of residents in a quarter or year.
