Data description
Quantity of fish landed from Latvian and foreign fishing vessels and average price at the time of first sale in the territory of Latvia. Excludes fish landed from Latvian fishing vessels in the territories of other countries.

Statistical unit
Fish landed in the territory of Latvia by species.
Statistical population
All vessels of the EU Member States and EFTA countries that have landed fish in Latvian ports or in the territory of Latvia on board third country vessels.
Form 1-Fishing is to be completed by companies engaged in commercial fishing and which have been granted catch limits and licenses.

Latvian fishermen are obliged to register fishing data in fishing logbooks. The information included in the logbooks is also used for statistical purposes.
Latvian fishermen are also obliged to submit to the Central Statistical Bureau information related to fishing and commercial fishing activities in accordance with the form “1-fishing” specified in the regulatory enactments regulating the field of official statistics and the prescribed submission deadlines.
Latvian fishermen register fishing data in fishing logbooks:
- after the vessel returns to the coast and before the first sale, storage or transport of fish, if fishing on the coast with fishing vessels with a maximum length of less than 10 m;
- for fishing vessels with a maximum length of at least 10 m – in accordance with the regulatory enactments of the European Union and the model fishing logbook approved therein, also indicating data regarding the transhipment of fish to another vessel if fishing in coastal waters or fishing for less than 24 hours;
- for fishing vessels with a maximum length of at least 12 m, in accordance with the model of the coastal fishing logbook specified in the regulatory enactments of the European Union, indicating data regarding fishing activities, catches, transhipment and landing of fish.
Latvian fishermen fill in fishing logbooks in the electronic Fisheries Integrated Control and Information System (LZIKIS) maintained by the Ministry of Agriculture in accordance with the regulatory enactments of the European Union. Latvian fishermen submit to the Central Statistical Bureau information related to fishing and commercial fishing activities in accordance with the form “1-fishing” specified in the regulatory enactments regulating the field of national statistics once a quarter.

- Annex 1 to Cabinet Regulation No 296 of 2 May 2007 “Regulations regarding Commercial Fishing in the Territorial Waters and Economic Zone Waters”;
- Annex 6 to Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) No 404/2011 laying down detailed rules for the implementation of Council Regulation (EC) No 1224/2009 establishing a Community control system for ensuring compliance with the rules of the Common Fisheries Policy;
- Annex 71 to Cabinet Regulation No 812 of 20 December 2016 “Regulations for Approval of Samples of Official Statistics Forms and Completion and Submission of Forms”;
- In the section catalog form (in Latvian) of the Central Statistical Bureau website, each year, until the end of February at latest, the CSB sends aggregated information regarding the information specified in the reports “1-fishing” for the previous year electronically to the Ministry of Agriculture.
- Information on the amount of fish landed in Latvian ports by vessels of other European Union countries is acquired from the Fisheries Data Exchange System (FIDES) maintained by the European Commission.
Data compilation
The Ministry of Agriculture maintains the Fisheries Integrated Control and Information System of Latvia and prepares a summary of the information available to LZIKIS for the previous year by 1 June each year.
