Retail trade turnover grew by 0.5 % in July

Calendar adjusted data (at constant prices) compiled by the Central Statistical Bureau (CSB) show that, compared to July 2021, in July 2022 total retail trade turnover rose by 0.5 %. Turnover of retail trade in food products grew by 1.7%. Retail trade in non-food products (except for retail sale of automotive fuel) increased by 3.4 %, but turnover of retail sale of automotive fuel – reduced by 8.4 %.

Compared to July 2021, the most notable turnover rise was recorded in retail sale of cultural and recreation goods (of 57.1 %), retail sale of information and communication equipment in specialised stores (13.8 %) and non-specialised stores selling mainly non-food products (9.3 %). A turnover drop was registered in retail sale in stalls or markets (of 23.9 %), retail sale via mail order houses or via Internet (10.8 %) and retail sale of electrical household appliances in specialised stores (5.7 %).

Total retail trade turnover at current prices increased by 19.3 % (not taking into account the calendar influence).

Compared to June, the total turnover of retail trade enterprises in July 2022 fell by 0.4 %, according to seasonally adjusted data at constant prices. Turnover of retail trade in food products declined by 1.3 %. Retail trade in non-food products (except for retail sale of automotive fuel) increased by 0.1 %, but turnover of retail sale of automotive fuel – reduced by 0.2 %.

Compared to the previous month, the largest turnover growth was observed in retail sale of cultural and recreation goods (of 15.7 %), retail sale of clothing, footwear and leather goods (4.4 %) and retail sale of pharmaceutical and medical goods (2.7 %). The largest turnover drop was registered in retail sale in stalls or markets (of 11.1 %) and retail sale of cosmetics and toiletries (4.3 %).

Compared to June, in July 2022 the total retail trade turnover at current prices (not taking into account seasonality) increased by 2.0 %.

Data published might be revised in the following months if additional information will be obtained from stores.

According to methodology of the survey, data on the total net turnover of enterprises also include transactions outside main activity. In some cases these transactions (e.g., wholesale trade) may significantly affect turnover changes in the sector. Total turnover, according to the main activity of enterprises, also includes income from e-commerce.
