In August retail trade turnover grew by 3.7 %
Calendar adjusted data (at constant prices) compiled by the Central Statistical Bureau (CSB) show that, compared to August 2020, in August 2021 total retail trade turnover rose by 3.7 %. Turnover of retail trade in food products declined by 3.8 %. Retail trade in non-food products (except for retail sale of automotive fuel) increased by 9.8 %, but turnover of retail sale of automotive fuel – by 3.5 %.
Compared to August 2020, the most notable turnover rise was recorded in retail sale via mail order houses or via Internet (of 40.6 %), retail sale of electrical household appliances in specialised stores (18.1 %) and retail sale of cultural and recreation goods (16.8 %). Turnover drop was registered in retail sale of information and communication equipment in specialised stores (of 2.0 %).
Total retail trade turnover at current prices increased by 8.7 % (not taking into account the calendar influence).
Compared to July, in August 2021, the total turnover of retail trade enterprises rose by 0.3 %, according to seasonally adjusted data at constant prices. Turnover of retail trade in food products declined by 1.1 %. Retail trade in non-food products (except for retail sale of automotive fuel) increased by 2.7 %, but turnover of retail sale of automotive fuel – reduced by 3.2 %.
Compared to the previous month, the largest turnover growth was observed in retail sale of cultural and recreation goods (of 28.4 %), retail sale of clothing, footwear and leather goods (7.1 %) and non-specialised stores selling mainly non-food products (5.5 %). The largest turnover drop was registered in retail sale in stalls or markets (of 13.6 %).
Compared to July, in August 2021 the total retail trade turnover at current prices (not taking into account seasonality) decreased by 0.4 %.

Data published might be revised in the following months if additional information will be obtained from stores.
According to methodology of the survey, data on the total net turnover of enterprises also include transactions outside main activity. In some cases these transactions (e.g., wholesale trade) may significantly affect turnover changes in the sector. Total turnover, according to the main activity of enterprises, also includes income from e-commerce.
