Retail trade turnover fell by 8.5 % in February
Calendar adjusted data (at constant prices) compiled by the Central Statistical Bureau (CSB) show that, compared to February 2020, in February 2021 total retail trade turnover reduced by 8.5 %. Turnover of retail trade in food products grew by 1.7 %. Retail trade in non-food products (except for retail sale of automotive fuel) decreased by 21.5 %, but turnover of retail sale of automotive fuel – increased by 5.2 %.
As compared to February 2020, the most notable turnover growth was registered in retail sale via mail order houses or via Internet (of 20.5 %) and retail sale of electrical household appliances in specialised stores (20.0 %). Notable turnover drop was registered in retail sale of clothing, footwear and leather goods (of 63.9 %), retail sale of cultural and recreation goods (37.0 %) and retail sale in non-specialised stores selling mainly non-food products (35.7 %).
Total retail trade turnover at current prices fell by 9.0 % (not taking into account the calendar influence).
Compared to January, the total turnover of retail trade enterprises in February 2021 rose by 4.4 %, according to seasonally adjusted data at constant prices. Turnover of retail trade in food products grew by 4.0 %. Retail trade in non-food products (except for retail sale of automotive fuel) increased by 7.2 %, but turnover of retail sale of automotive fuel – reduced by 0.1 %.
As compared to the previous month, the most notable turnover growth was in non-specialised stores selling mainly non-food products (of 16.5 %), retail sale of cosmetics and toiletries (16.3 %) and retail sale of electrical household appliances in specialised stores (11.0 %). The most significant turnover drop was recorded in retail trade in pharmaceutical and medical goods (of 4.2 %).
Compared to January, in February 2021 the total retail trade turnover at current prices (not taking into account seasonality) rose by 2.6 %.

Data published might be revised in the following months if additional information will be obtained from stores.
According to methodology of the survey, data on the total net turnover of enterprises also include transactions outside main activity. In some cases these transactions (for example, wholesale) may significantly affect turnover changes in the sector. Total turnover, according to the main activity of enterprises, also includes income from e-commerce.
