Number of job vacancies in the 3rd quarter rose by 12.3 %

Data of the Central Statistical Bureau (CSB) show that at the end of the 3rd quarter of 2021 there were 23.5 thousand job vacancies in Latvia, which is 2.6 thousand vacancies or 12.3 % more than in the 3rd quarter of 2020. In private sector there were 14.9 thousand and in public sector 8.5 thousand job vacancies. Over the year, the number of job vacancies in private sector grew by 1.9 thousand or 14.3 %, while in public sector – by 0.7 thousand or 8.9 %.

Compared to the 2nd quarter of 2021, the number of job vacancies reduced by 7.2 % or 1.8 thousand. In private sector there was a drop of 11.8 % or 2.0 thousand, while in public sector – an increase of 2.0 % or 0.2 thousand.

Starting with the 1st quarter of 2021 State Revenue Service data is used for the calculation of the number of occupied posts, in the result, compared to the 3rd quarter of 2020, in the 3rd quarter this year the number of occupied posts rose to 904.7 thousand or by 1.3 %. But, compared to the previous quarter, the number of occupied posts reduced by 3.8 % or 35.5 thousand. Until the end of 2020 the source of occupied posts was CSB sample survey.

Out of all job posts the highest share of job vacancies was registered among skilled agricultural, forestry and fishery workers – 5.2 %, craft and related trades workers – 3.8 %, as well as professionals – 3.7 %.

The highest share of job vacancies was recorded in public administration (5.9 %), manufacturing (3.6 %), administrative and support service activities (3.1 %), health and social care (2.9 %), as well as information and communication (2.8 %).

In the 3rd quarter this year, the greatest share of job vacancies was observed in Riga region – 3.0 % of all jobs within the region or 15.0 thousand, whereas the lowest – in Latgale region – 1.6 % or 1.1 thousand.

Among all Baltic countries, in the 3rd quarter of 2021 the highest share of job vacancies (2.5 %) was registered in Latvia, in Lithuania (2.0 %), but in Estonia it was the lowest (1.9 %).

At the end of the 3rd quarter of 2021, compared to the end of the 3rd quarter of 2020, the largest rise in the number of job vacancies was observed in Lithuania (45.3 %), in Estonia (32.6 %), but in Latvia (12.3 %).
