COVID-19 impact: employees working remotely

10.1 % of employees worked remotely in 3rd quarter

In the 3rd quarter of 2022, 10.1 % of employees (78.7 thousand) fully or partially worked remotely¹. It is 20.7 thousand people or 3.0 percentage points fewer than a year ago (99.4 thousand and 13.1 %) and 4.9 thousand people and 0.9 percentage points fewer than in the previous quarter (83.6 thousand and 11.0 %). Females accounted for 54.9 % and males for 45.1 % of the employees working remotely.

Out of all employees working remotely, 40.5 % did it all of the working time, 20.8 % regularly 1–2 days a week, and 28.8 % regularly 3–5 days a week. A couple of days remotely were worked by 7.2 %, while very small share worked remotely part of a working day.

In terms of age, almost two fifths (37.5 %) of the persons working remotely were formed by people aged 15–34 (males 44.7 %, females 31.7 %). Followed by 31.5 % of employees aged 35–44, 19.2 % of those aged 45–54, and 11.8 % of those aged 55–74.

The largest share of remote workers (13.6 %) among all employees of the respective age group was observed among people aged 15–34 while smallest (4.7 %) among those aged 55–74.

Breakdown of the data by economic activity shows that 60.4 % of persons engaged in information and communication sector worked remotely, followed by 32.7 % in financial and insurance activities, 20.7 % in scientific, administrative and real estate sectors (NACE Sectors L–N), and 19.0 % in public administration and defence, compulsory social security. The smallest share (3.2 %) of remote employees was recorded in education sector.

In terms of occupations, 26.9 % of professionals worked remotely, followed by 19.3 % of managers, 16.0 % of technicians and associate professionals, and 9.8 % of clerical support workers.

In the 3rd quarter of 2022 LFS covered 4.8 thousand households in which 8.1 thousand people aged 15–89 were interviewed, including 4.2 thousand households with 7.1 thousand people aged 15–74.
